Match Report by Tony Collins

Diss Town returned to winning ways with a convincing victory at Stoneylands on Saturday. Injuries to George Wilson and Adie Hayes meant that Ed Cussons and Danny Jones came in to midfield. Andy Moody and Ben Deacon replaced Osiris Gomes and Kevin Leggett up front from the team which had lost at home to Stowmarket.

Floyd Croll made two good early saves to deny Luke Catchpole and Ben Deacon as Diss attacked from the off. James Wilson also headed wide at a corner from Ed Cussons and it seemed a matter of time before Diss would take the lead. Efforts from Brendan Foley, Andy Moody and Ben Deacon were off target as the first half came to an end at 0-0.

Diss finally broke the deadlock on 62 minutes when Luke Catchpole hit a superb shot from 25 yards out which flew into the corner of the net.

Eight minutes later Croll did well to save from Deacon and in the follow up Justin Crissell made two fine blocks to deny Moody and Osiris Gomes. Gomes shot from an acute angle in the 80th minute and Croll conceded an own goal when he fumbled the ball and it was ruled to have crossed the line by a well positioned Assistant Referee.

(Gomes gets in a shot from an angle that evades the Long Melford keeper)

(Croll pulls the ball back, but it had already crossed the line)

Jamie Arran brought Catchpole down a minute into added time and Danny Partridge completed the scoring from the penalty kick (photo below).

There was still time for Long Melford to have Danny Brind sent off for his second yellow card offence.
