Ridgeons League Division One Diss Town travelled
to Recreation Way to take on Premier Division opposition in
Mildenhall, who had won four of their six league games. For 50
minutes it looked as though an upset was on the cards but the
game turned when Brendan Foley was sent off for violent conduct.
Early chances fell to both sides. Steve Spriggs
shooting just too high for Mildenhall and the Diss reply seeing
Ben Deacon draw a fine save from Shaun Marshall to a Danny
Partridge cross. With only ten minutes played Diss had to defend
with determination to keep out shots from Spriggs and Ryan
Foster. The game remained open and it was only a matter of time
before a goal came. It was The Tangerines who took the lead in
the 26th minute. Danny Jones released Danny McKail to
run after the ball down the Diss right. His centre was curled
into the far corner of the net with a left foot shot by Ben
Deacon for his 8th goal of the season. Mark
Camidge ensured that Diss kept the lead at the break when he
made a good save to keep out a long range Carl Murkin shot.
Mildenhall had more of the play following Foley’s
dismissal. Tony Scully equalised from eight yards out in the 60th
minute following a pass from Owen Paynter. Robbie Harris put
Mildenhall ahead ten minutes later. The next goal came from
Paynter in the 73rd minute. Spriggs was allowed time
and space to turn and shoot in to make it 4-1. McKail and Deacon
linked up well as the game went into added time with deacon
crossing to the far post for Danny Partridge to head in.
