Diss Town completed their away league matches in
2009 with a draw on a difficult surface, passed fit just before
kick off, at Clacton. They have not been beaten in their last 8
away matches. It completes a remarkable 2009 where away from
home they have 13 wins, three draws and one defeat with a goals
tally of 57-22 and 42 points collected.
Both sides created early chances but it was The
Tangerines who scored first with the wind at their backs. An 18th
minute pass found its way to Adie Hayes on the edge of
the penalty area and he scored with an accurate low shot into
the corner of the net. Danny Partridge used his pace to
beat the offside trap and go away to shoot in to make it 2-0 in
the 25th minute. He had a chance to make it three at
a corner but his shot went high. From the next corner his header
hit the outside of a post.
Mark White and Matty Waters linked up to allow
Sean Hillier to shoot Clacton back into the match in the 34th
minute. Diss were awarded a penalty for the fourth match in a
row when Partridge was brought down in the 38th
minute. Adie Hayes made it 3-1 from the penalty kick.
Waters scored directly from a free kick in the 47th
minute and Hillier scored his second goal of the afternoon in
the 58th minute to make it 3-3. Lee Barrett sent the
ball through the middle and Hillier rounded Ashley Smith to
shoot in. Both teams went for the winner as conditions
deteriorated. Waters hit the bar for Clacton and may be in the
end a draw was a fair outcome.
