Diss Town were beaten in an entertaining match
full of passing football and chances as they played most of the
match with ten men at Emerald Park. George Wilson was sent off
in the 8th minute for the use of an elbow in an
aerial challenge for the ball with Ricci Butler.
The Greens failed to make their extra man pay
despite a lot of pressure in the next ten minutes. Ben Soanes
made two superb block tackles at the resulting free kick, Lee
Hunter shot over when released by John Bell in the 14th
minute and four minutes later Soanes made a perfect tackle as
Luke Goreham turned in space in the penalty area. In the follow
up play Matty Hill made an excellent diving save to his left to
a shot from Gary Ingram.
Adie Hayes won the ball in midfield in the 22nd
minute and found Luke Catchpole. His through ball saw Ben Deacon
slide and get his toe to the ball and force Tom Marsden to use
his feet to block. A minute later a headed pass from Catchpole
sent Deacon clear to bring another great block with his feet
from Marsden to a well struck low shot.
In the 31st minute Mark Shadrack was
on the ground and his trailing foot caught Ben Manning. A
penalty was awarded and Butler sent Hill the wrong way. Danny
Jones, starting a match for Diss for the first time since 1st
November, sent in a number of perfect corners from the left. In
the 34th minute Soanes was high with his header when
unmarked, in the 43rd minute Catchpole forced Marsden
into the save of the game when his header was tipped over and
deep into added time Catchpole headed wide when unmarked. Hunter
headed wide at a great 34th minute chance to a
Goreham centre.
There were fewer chances but more goals in the
second half. Jones had a 20 yard free kick tipped round the post
by Marsden and Catchpole headed over to a Deacon cross three
minutes later as Diss went in search of an equaliser. Hunter had
a great chance to make it 2-0 but shot wide at a 65th
minute counter attack following a Diss corner. Jones was on
target with a header and Steve Wright failed to get enough power
on his header as Diss still looked likely to score.
However, in the 72nd minute Ingram
became the second ex-Tangerine to score when he moved into the
penalty area on the left and hit a powerful shot into the far
corner from an acute angle. Kyle Howell made a goal saving last
ditch tackle as Osiris Gomes moved on to a pass from Soanes ten
minutes from time. Any lingering hopes for Diss were dashed in
the 87th minute when Hunter ran on to a through ball
and slid his shot past Hill from the edge of the penalty area to
make it 3-0. Two minutes later a free kick on the right from
Hayes was headed in by Ben Soanes. Deep in added time
Marsden reacted well to keep out a goal bound attempted
clearance from Eddie Thompson.
