Diss Town’s recent impressive improved home form
came to an end on Saturday when they were beaten by Cornard
United. It was the first home defeat since league leaders
Newmarket won at Brewers Green Lane on 15th November.
It ended a run of six wins and a draw from seven games. Danny
Partridge and George Wilson replaced Andy Moody and Mark Fowler
in the starting line up.

Cornard led by two goals at the interval and the
frustration at the decisions made and how the game was going
cost five cautions for dissent and ended with a sending off for
key midfield player Luke Catchpole.
Dan Price outpaced Ed Cussons down the Diss left
in the 4th minute and crossed low for Ben Lawson to
shoot in to make it 1-0. Jake Berry was high with a chance in
the early stages for Diss but The Tangerines were showing no
signs that the wind at their backs was an advantage. Matty Hill
pushed away a header from Sam Holman at a corner as the visitors
showed that they were looking to score goals.
The second goal came in the 43rd
minute from a free kick. Carters shot in from fully 35 yards out
with the home defence in disarray and goalkeeper Hill a mere
spectator.
There was little improvement in the second half
from The Tangerines. Things became worse when a foul on
Catchpole in the 62nd minute went unpunished and he
was sent off for his reaction. Diss began to increase the pace
of their play and pulled a goal back in the 73rd
minute. Cussons linked up with Berry to release Partridge to
cross low for Ben Soanes to steer the ball in from close
range. Soanes was only just wide and Steve Best forced
goalkeeper Darren Moyes into a late save as Diss attempted to
rescue a point. |
