Diss Town put the disappointment of their
terrible display on Saturday behind them as they scored four
times and missed many more chances to run out convincing winners
against Swaffham at Shoemakers Lane on Tuesday. The injured
George Wilson was replaced by Danny Jones and the unavailable
Jake Berry by Stuart Jenkinson with Andy Moody returning in
place of Steve Wright. However, that switch only lasted 22
minutes due to Moody picking up a back muscle injury.
An entertaining start to the game saw Diss go
close with a shot from Danny Partridge only just going too high
and Lee Brookes turning a Stuart Jenkinson shot away for a
corner. Ex-Tangerine Gavin Norman had a shot well blocked at the
expense of a corner and Stuart Seales should have done better
than shoot wide after breaking away for Swaffham.
Diss took the lead in the 20th minute
when an Ed Cussons corner was powerfully headed into the top
corner of the net by James Wilson from eight yards out.
Four minutes later Jenkinson had a shot deflected for a counter.
From it Ben Soanes should have done better than shoot wide after
a poor punch away by Brookes. Brookes used his feet to deny
Jenkinson in the 28th minute after Steve Wright and
Soanes exchanged passes down the left. Soanes missed another
fine chance, two minutes later he shot over after a defensive
mistake to a Cussons corner.
Wright headed over from three yards out when
unmarked at a corner. Matty Hill made a superb save to deny Rob
Howling directly from a 60th minute free kick. The
save of the night came from Brookes in the 68th
minute when he dived low to keep out a Steve Best close range
header at a corner. From their next corner Diss went 2-0 ahead
when Steve Best headed the kick from Cussons on for Danny
Partridge to guide in from a yard out. By now Diss were in
charge of the attacking play and Brookes used his feet to keep
out a shot from Partridge, who had run clear of the defence.
In the 75th minute Partridge collected
a long ball and passed it for Ben Soanes to take on and
shoot across the face of the goalkeeper and in via the inside of
the post. A minute later Diss made it 4-0 as Partridge released
Jones to run and cross low for Luke Catchpole to shoot in
from close range. |
