Diss Town had already won twice, both at
Shoemakers’ Lane, against Swaffham this season. However, as both
teams returned to action after a lengthy weather interruption –
Diss last played on 28th December and Swaffham on 12th
December – a goal less draw meant that Diss had drawn seven of
their ten league games played at Brewers Green Lane this season.
Diss had the greater share of the possession and
created a few reasonable chances but lacked a cutting edge in
attack. Swaffham looked dangerous at corner kicks and free
kicks, but in truth, neither side looked likely to score.
Mark Shadrack was high with his shot after a 19th
minute Stuart Garner corner caused problems. Dan Wynne had a 28th
minute shot cleared off the line after Xavier Huckle saw his low
shot palmed away by Lee Brookes. Danny Paynter shot wide and
Kyle Plumb had a shot held by Ally McAnally late in the first
half as Swaffham had their best spell so far.
Brookes made a good diving save to his left to
push away a quickly taken 52nd minute free kick from
Jason Hunt but changes by both teams failed to change the
pattern of the match. Garner was inches high with a fierce left
foot shot after a fine 71st minute run and cross by
Jake Burton. Jordan Rocastle shot across the face of goal four
minutes later from a very tight angle but Swaffham came close to
snatching the points in the 77th minute when Garner
cleared off the line from a Plumb header. The save of the match
came in the 85th minute when Brookes arched back to
tip over a 30 yard Burton shot which seemed destined for the top
corner.
