Two defensive mistakes contributed to a defeat
for Diss against higher league opposition despite some fine
first half passing football. Diss started the match with eleven
players who have remained with the club from last season. They
seemed to benefit from the continuity that this gave them. The
second half was a more disjointed affair as both teams, as
happens in these pre-season games, made many changes.
The move of the match saw Luke Catchpole have a
13th minute shot superbly saved by John Pope after he
was released by Mark Shadrack. The move started with a 50 yard
cross field pass from Jason Hunt to Peter Hooks wide on the
right. He laid the ball off to Shadrack.
Matty Webster had a good first half, making
diving saves and blocking well. He was beaten in the 22nd
minute when the ball was given away and a cross was turned in
from close range by Alan Ross.
James McKaig made it 2-0 when he shot in from 10
yards out in the 48th minute when the ball was pulled
back from the goal lime. Stuart Garner was denied by a good save
after a well worked free kick mid-way through the second half.
The scoring was completed two minutes from time when Tom Youngs
was able to move on to a poor back pass and slide the ball past
Scott Cruickshank. |
