Match Report - Tony Collins

Diss played out an entertaining 0-0 draw against a Norwich City Academy team on a pitch made slick by heavy afternoon rain at Brewers Green Lane. Both sides worked the ball well in a first half which had very few interruptions for free kicks. It is possible that the teams could meet again this season as Norwich will play their Academy team in The Norfolk Senior Cup.

Richard Brindley came close with an early 25 yard shot which was only just wide of Matty Webster’s post. In the 9th minute Brindley forced Webster to make a good diving save to keep out a low shot. Jordan Rocastle and Andy Moody were just off target as The Tangerines threatened the visiting goal. Alex Stephens headed over to a good 28th minute chance to a centre from Matt Ball.

Moody was denied by goalkeeper Remi Matthews as he moved into the penalty area after a poor Norwich pass. He was narrowly off target twice in the early stages of the second half. Brendan Foley did get the ball into the net in the 47th minute but he was ruled to be offside.

Diss were winning the ball in the air at corner kicks and Simon Jackson was only just high as Stuart Garner’s 57th minute corner swung in. Rocastle drew a diving save from Matthews when his 70th minute glancing header to a mark Shadrack free kick flashed towards the corner of the net.

Webster made a great save to ensure that the game ended without a goal being scored when he dived to hit right to push away a well struck 18 yard shot from Brindley
