Diss completed their pre-season warm up matches
with a second successive 0-0 draw at Dellwood Avenue in the
first of a double header featuring both First and Reserve Teams.
The first half was played in heavy rain with few
chances created by either side. However, both goalkeepers made
one fine save. Liam Jones in the home goal dived to his right in
the 21st minute to push away a header from Jesse
Payne-Wilkins after Stuart Garner swung in a free kick from wide
on the right. Five minutes later Matty Webster, who had a fine
pre-season, pushed over the bar a 30 yard free kick from Mike
Powell.
Diss created more chances in the second half than
their young opponents who will be playing one league higher when
the season kicks off. Jordan Rocastle’s pace caused problems to
the home defence. He set up Luke Catchpole for an on target
effort before shooting just wide from the edge of the penalty
area. Diss had strong appeals for a penalty turned away in the
78th minute when Rocastle went down when challenged
by two defenders. The loose ball fell kindly for George Watts-Sturrock
and he should have down better than shoot over from nine yards
out.
The best Felixstowe chance of the second half was
missed by Dan Spencer in the 82nd minute. It was left
for Jones to keep the game goal-less with late saves in palming
away a header from Dan Wynne and a shot from Catchpole. |
