Diss Town A opened up their pre-season programme with a
convincing 6-2 victory against Harleston Res. The game
started with both teams passing the ball around well on a
nice surface. Diss settled into a rhythm and started to
create some chances. Lloyd Miller saw a shot well saved by
the keeper as did Martin Kent and Ben Green. The visitors
were looking dangerous up front also and saw a couple of
shots fly wide of goal. The opening goal came after minutes
when a corner from Nathan Ellis was sent back
to him and his second cross went all the way through and
into the back of the net to make the score 1-0. Lloyd Miller
and Ben Green were looking dangerous up front creating lots
of chances between them. On 22 minutes it was 2-0. The goal
came when a good corner from Nathan Ellis was met powerfully
at the back post by Ben Green to head into the
net to make the score 2-0. Harleston then got a foot hold on
the game and started to apply some pressure with the defence
of Callum Ellis, Ben Wilby, Chris Saunders and George Cole
holding firm. The visitors did get a goal on the 30 min mark
when a corner wasn’t cleared properly and the player smashed
the ball into the roof of the net from 30 yards to make the
score 2-1. Diss Town’s 2 goal lead was restored minutes
later when the lively Lloyd Miller broke
through on goal and after a lucky break from the keeper
tapped the ball into the empty net to make the score 3-1.
Just before half time the home side killed off the match
with the goal of the game. It came when the ball broke to
Nathan Ellis 25 yards from goal and he smashed
the ball first time into the top corner of the net to make
the score 4-1 at half time.
Half Time Score Diss Town A 4 Harleston Res 1
The second half saw Diss Town A make 4 player changes and a
host of positional changes to check out players in different
positions. This had a effect on the pattern of the match but
there was still some good football played. The home side
should have had a penalty 2 mins into the half when a
brilliant burst from George Cole took him into the penalty
area where he was taken down but the referee waved play on.
Just minutes later the same player again went through on
goal and was taken out but again the referee said no pen.
The home side made it 5-1 20 mins into the half when
Martin Kent received a Kieran Harris pass and
smashed the ball into the bottom corner via a deflection.
Harleston pulled a goal back when a good move resulted in
the left winger finishing well to make the score 5-2. With
the game slowing down the impressive George Cole was still
driving into the box and causing the opposition all kinds of
problems. With 15 minutes to go the final goal of the game
was scored when the lightning quick Max Denny
burst through on goal and finished well into the bottom
corner to make the score 6-2. Diss Town A’s man of the match
was George Cole for a explosive performance.
