Diss Town A travelled to SIL division 2 side Hoxne Utd
in a last minute minute friendly due to the original
game being cancelled against Sprowston Beehive. Diss
knew this would be a tough game against a well
established side 8 leagues above them. The game started
with Hoxne passing the ball around very well and looking
dangerous up top with two lively strikers. The home side
had the first chance after 5 minutes when a good move
resulted in Jimmy Goulding firing wide from the edge of
the area. The visitors were struggling to get to grips
with the game and couldn’t get a foot on the ball and
fell behind after 15 minutes when a good ball through
found the electric Colin Mayhew and he poked the ball
past stand in goalkeeper Max Lock to make the score 1-0.
Diss reacted to the goal and almost drew level
immediately when a corner from James Casbard found Dan
Rose who’s header was tipped over the bar by the home
sides keeper. The tangerines had a glorious chance to
equalize when Jordan Balls sent Ben Green through on
goal but his lob went over the bar. The home side
doubled their lead on the half hour mark when the
impressive Steve Garland sent a through ball for Kyle
Wythe who out powered the defender and smashed the ball
into the bottom corner to make the score 2-0. Diss were
trying to get back into the game but Hoxne were
defending well and not giving much away. Hoxne almost
wrapped up the game before half time but Max Lock saved
well from Jimmy Goulding. On 40 minutes another good
chance came the visitors way when Dan Rose released Ben
Green who carried the ball forward but his shot was
tipped wide by the goalkeeper.
