Match Report - Jamie Scales

Diss Town A travelled to SIL division 2 side Hoxne Utd in a last minute minute friendly due to the original game being cancelled against Sprowston Beehive. Diss knew this would be a tough game against a well established side 8 leagues above them. The game started with Hoxne passing the ball around very well and looking dangerous up top with two lively strikers. The home side had the first chance after 5 minutes when a good move resulted in Jimmy Goulding firing wide from the edge of the area. The visitors were struggling to get to grips with the game and couldn’t get a foot on the ball and fell behind after 15 minutes when a good ball through found the electric Colin Mayhew and he poked the ball past stand in goalkeeper Max Lock to make the score 1-0. Diss reacted to the goal and almost drew level immediately when a corner from James Casbard found Dan Rose who’s header was tipped over the bar by the home sides keeper. The tangerines had a glorious chance to equalize when Jordan Balls sent Ben Green through on goal but his lob went over the bar. The home side doubled their lead on the half hour mark when the impressive Steve Garland sent a through ball for Kyle Wythe who out powered the defender and smashed the ball into the bottom corner to make the score 2-0. Diss were trying to get back into the game but Hoxne were defending well and not giving much away. Hoxne almost wrapped up the game before half time but Max Lock saved well from Jimmy Goulding. On 40 minutes another good chance came the visitors way when Dan Rose released Ben Green who carried the ball forward but his shot was tipped wide by the goalkeeper.

Half Time Hoxne Utd 2 Diss Town A 0

In the second half both sides made changes and Diss started to enjoy more possession than in the first half and almost scored straight away when a good move resulted in James Casbard firing inches wide. Next it was Ryan Halil who broke free down the right and he also fired inches wide. The early first half pressure from Diss counted for nothing when in the 55th minute the game was killed off when a sharp counter attack resulted in Hoxne being through on goal and Max Lock made a stunning double save before Gary Marks smashed the ball into the net. The home side looked like they could score with every attack with Diss still pushing forward leaving Hoxne to play some nice 1 touch passing. The visitors to their credit kept on going and Lloyd Miller forced Mitch Rouse into a sharp save and Cameron Barton also fired wide from the edge of the area. Diss were wasteful in front of goal and went 4-0 down when too much space was allowed to Jimmy Goulding who turned well and fired into the bottom corner. The visitors did get a consolation goal with 3 minutes to go when a long ball from Ben Green found James Casbard through on goal and he finished into the bottom corner to make the final score 4-1. Diss would have learned a lot from this game against a talented Hoxne side but may feel on another day the game could have been much closer if they took some of their chances. Diss Towns man of the match was Ryan Halil.
