3G pitch boost in South Norfolk

Wednesday 23rd November 2011

Local people in Diss, South Norfolk, now have a refurbished third generation (3G) artificial grass pitch.

The new 3G facility at Brewers Green Lane, Diss Town Football Club was formally opened on Friday 18th November by Diss Town Mayor Mike Bardwell. Mr Bardwell is pictured with Diss Town F C Chairman Richard Upson at the ceremony.

The facility is being used by members of the community, adult and youth teams (both boys and girls) for small sided games and training. The DissUnder-12 team were using the facility on the evening of the official opening (picture 3gnight attached).

The team are pictured with (back row from left to right) Danny Maskell (Diss F C Vice-Chairman), Mark Channell (Diss U-12 Manager), Mike Bardwell (Diss Town Mayor), Richard Upson (Diss F C Chairman), Gavin Lemmon (Norfolk County F A Development Manager) and Richard King (Norfolk County F A Chairman).

The Norfolk County F A Fives will start on the facility on Wednesday evenings in January.

The new 5-a-side area will allow teams and individuals within the local vicinity to coach and play small-sided games on the new 3G surface, which will be managed by Diss Town Football Club.

The project was funded with the help of a £19,000 grant from the Football Foundation. Funded by the Premier League, The FA, and the Government via Sport England, the Football Foundation is the nation’s largest sports charity. Since it was launched in 2000, the Foundation has awarded around 8,000 grants worth more than £420m towards improving grassroots sport, which it has used to attract additional partnership funding of over £520m.

Richard Upson Chairman at Diss Town Football Club, said: “We are delighted to have the use of this new 3G 5-a-side area as well as being able to offer it to clubs and groups within the community. We would like to thank the Football Foundation in helping us to achieve this.”

Paul Thorogood, Chief Executive of the Football Foundation said: “We are delighted that  Diss Town Football Club and the local community will have access to these fantastic new facilities and commend the club and the Norfolk County FA for their hard work in making this happen.”

“This is the latest example of thousands of projects across the country that the Football Foundation is supporting with money provided by our funding partners the Premier League, The FA and Government.”
