The meaning of life explained in a rational

The Understanding of Life
Why do we exist? Is there a meaning to life? Many answers to
these questions have been devised which for the most part are variants on
a religious or mystical theme. These provide a purpose to life but
not the purpose of life. Philosophy has helped us to formulate the
questions but its failure to deal with scientific facts has resulted in a
barren contribution to the answers. A full, rational explanation of
our existence based on our rapidly accumulating scientific knowledge has
eluded us - until now.
The explanation of life which is offered in this book draws on three main
components: evolution, genetics and psychology. We live at a truly
fortunate time because prior to the maturing of these three areas it was
not possible to understand the true meaning of life. However,
something exists in our mind which stops us from seeing clearly what is
already before us. Once this block is removed we can view life
objectively and see it as a special form of information which has arisen
through evolution. In this book information is identified as the
unifying entity of the universe which is inherent in the spatial
arrangement of matter. Life is defined as the ability to organise
matter or, in other words and more generally, as the ability to process
information. A consequence of this is a realisation that time, which
is measured by the change in spatial arrangement of matter, does not exist
in itself but is a human concept which arises out of memory - there is
only now and position. Evolution is shown to be part of a wider
process through which the whole universe has developed.
This book relates these findings to our world and our lives. It sets out
in rational terms where we came from, how we got here and finally, reveals
our destiny.
