Grand Mamou formed in 1992 when Cajun music enthusiast and accordion player Pete Rout, guitarist John Tomlinson and multi-instrumentalist Chris Holifield got together. All three had been part of the Ipswich music scene for many years in bands such as Herbal Remedies, Spit and Polish, and WYSIWYG. They soon recruited Vicky Moss, a classically trained violinist who grew up in the North of Ireland and the band quickly established a solid reputation, playing a wide variety of dance music at gigs, dances and festivals all over East Anglia. Chris left the band in 2006 to pursue his interest in sailing and his long term plans to sail single handed around Alton Water. The band continue to gig as a trio.

Grand Mamou are based in Ipswich, Suffolk (UK).

The band's influences range from Cajun, East Anglian, Celtic and European folk to rock and jazz (mmm... nice!).
