HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO PRINCESS LAEKA 11 YEARS OLD 30TH SEPTEMBER 2009
Laeka celebrated her 11th Birthday with a group of her close friends who spoil her rotten. Laeka thanks everyone for their lovely presents.
As you can see the dogs and handlers enjoyed some party games.
(my the concentration!)

(Above egg and spoon race!)

(Huge thanks to Gillian Westland for the beautiful cake, it really was gorgeous, my plan was to treasure it forever but however Ailsa had other ideas and it was not to be! thankfully I have the photograph as a lovely reminder- you are very talented)

ASPADS CONTROL AND AGILITY TESTS

The above members trained at Darcregan entered ASPADS Control and Agility Tests held in Auchterhouse in Dundee on Sunday 9th of August 2009. Unfortunately Bracco (Dobe 4th from left) had to withdraw due to minor injury he experienced during the week but handler Lorraine still attended to watch and support the team. Also Mac (crossbreed) right front row was spooked by the clay pigeon shooting and also had to withdraw. There is always the next time guys!
From Left to Right: Margaret Henderson with Sam (1st Place Elementary), Yvonne with Marley (4th Place Intermediate), Debbie McKay with Breaze (3rd Place Intermediate) , Ruth Keith and Dizzy (4th Place Elementary) , Helen Watson and Darcy (1st Place Intermediate), Sean Davison and Cuillin (3rd Place Elementary).
I was delighted to see how well everyone performed in the tests. The marks were very close. I was extremely proud of the group on Sunday - well done all of you. I hope you are motivated to work towards your CD com!
It was a great fun day enjoyed by dogs and their owners. Thanks to the organisers at the Dundee branch of ASPADS.
As if we didn't have enough excitement the day came to a close by Jennifer driving her car into a ditch and having to be pushed out and Yvonne losing her glasses only for them to be recovered very worse for the wear!
A delighted Helen Watson with Darcy who won the Intermediate Stake. Darcy is proving to be very much on form - good luck for your UD.

Margaret Henderson with Sam 'Kreiger Invader' winners of the Elementary Stake.
This win was particularly emotional for handler and trainer Yvonne.
' Margaret has shown endless commitment and patience with regards to working through Sam's behavioural and training issues. It has been a bumpy road at times but Margaret has alway kept upbeat and positive. Well those days are behind you Margaret and what better than winning 1st place from 12 dogs to prove it. I am delighted for you. Yvonne

John Rogerson held a CSI course for Darcregan Dog Training from 24th to the 27th of July 2009. 15 dogs and handlers attended this course, the fun and laughter started at 9.30am and continued throughout the day until 4.30pm. On the 3rd day representatives from each team completed a night time track on Lauder common to search for extra clues for the team and ended with further hilarity in the Lauderdale Hotel. Each day members of Darcregan displayed their hidden talents of home baking for everyone to enjoy. Both dogs and handlers spent 4 days in the beautiful surroundings of Mountskip Equestrian Centre (thanks to Lynda and Mike Pendar) and being trained and entertained by John, whose skill as a Dog Trainer is second to none. It was said by handlers that have attended and thoroughly enjoyed John's previous courses that this CSI course 'was the best by far'. Check back to this page if you want to read the highlights of this course which will appear over the next few days.
(The winning team pictured above, Andy I won't tell you used your Iphone for clues!)

(It has been said that members of Darcregan are 'joined at the hip'! )
Photo above members had to send a dog to fetch a tennis ball that had the key to the padlock in which they could free themselves!

Oh dear not going quite so well for Susan and Elsie!

Elaine and Diva competed in their first Agility competition held at Meadowmill on 14th July 2009. Diva achieved a clear round which is a very positive start. We are very proud of Elaine and Diva for 'giving it a go' and flying the flag for Darcregan. Diva is very much the glamour girl of Darcregan Dog Training!

Dalfson Double Top 1 RCC
'Brodie'

Sadly another of my canine friends has gone to Rainbow Bridge. As Ava was a lady, Brodie was every inch a gentleman. Brodie had such a loving nature and was the pride and joy of owners Helen and Ali Watson. As well as an extremely successful show career, winning Groups and Best in Show at Open Shows (I will never forget how stunning Brodie looked in the ring at an open show at Newcastle where he beat off strong competition and went on to win Best in Show under a distinguished Judge, he took my breath away that day he looked every inch a Champion) Brodie was also consistently placed at Championship Shows gaining a RCC. Unfortunately due to developing a Thyroid condition Helen decided to withdraw Brodie from the Showring.
Brodie also made Helen (and myself) extremely proud when they competed at the Pet Dog Obedience Handler of the Year competition hosted by the Scottish Kennel Club where they were placed 3rd out of 42 competitors. A wonderful achievement.
My lasting memory of Brodie will be of him in his favourite pose, lying on his back, outstretched on the sofa expecting one of us to rub his tummy!
Helen and Ali I am thinking of you both, I have known Brodie since a puppy and I know what a wonderful boy he was, Brodie will be such a miss - just try to remember all the good times (and there were many!)
Love Yvonne

'Ava'
30/09/1998 - 25/12/2004

Ava will be sadly missed, we will remember Ava for her kind unassuming character, and for possessing the agility of a gazelle. I will hold so many special memories of Ava as she was Laeka's best buddie and training companion. Maureen and I spent many wonderful days out walking and laughing at the two girls antics, not to mention the many hours training we spent working towards our WT qualifications. Ava was also a great role model for our young puppies.
Our thoughts are with Maureen Park and her family.
Love Yvonne, Helen & Sean

NEW ADDITION AT DARCREGAN
Now that Laeka is retired from working and is concentrating on being a full time Princess we have
decided to introduce a new puppy into the family.
We are proud to announce that
Diego's Caught 'n' the Act 'Marley' has joined Darcregan.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It is with sadness that I report that Laeka - Sallate Eura CDex, UDex was diagnosed with a fibrosarcoma which
resulted in me having to make the decision to have her foreleg amputated to prevent it from spreading.
This has been an extremely traumatic time and I thank all my friends who sent Laeka Get Well cards,
dog treats and toys. The Postman gave me a strange look when he delivered a parcel addressed to
Princess Laeka! Thanks also for the beautiful flowers that you sent to me they were very much appreciated. I count myself
lucky to have such great support and good friends.
At the time I wondered if I had made the right decision to have Laeka's leg amputated. Laeka is such an active dog
with a zest and love of life, we loved travelling the Country competing in Working Trials and more
recently Agility in which Laeka loved. Would she still be a happy dog minus a limb? the answer is yes,
looking at Laeka now, 2 weeks after her surgery she is doing really well and coping magnificantly.
I have added a few photos I took of Laeka a few days ago.
