I
began my martial arts career with Shihan David Passmore
Founder of Budokan UK, at a school hall in Northolt
Middlesex in 1972. We practised Karate and Aikido, later
Shihan David introduced Iaido and the practise of Zazen
meditation for those who wished to practise. Since 1972
I have been a member of Budokan UK , until the association
split several years ago, at which time I decided to
form my own association (Ni Kawa Kai).
Over
the years I found myself training and learning from
many different Sensei adding to my martial arts skills,
gaining recognition along the way. I have had the privilege
to meet and train with some very skilful Japanese and
European masters who I would like to thank for their
time and dedication to the martial arts.

There
are others I would like to have meet and trained with
but alas are no longer with us, an unfortunate situation
we find ourselves as martial artists. It is my opinion
that we should pass our knowledge of real martial arts
on with no restrictions, systematically ensuring they
survive, there should be no secrecy today otherwise
the true effective techniques both physical and esoteric
will be lost. We must document our own experiences and
techniques as a legacy for future generations, ensuring
that the true spirit and technique of real combat technique
will not be lost amongst the modernist approach of misunderstanding
between sport and the martial arts. We must continue
to promote the martial arts as a way of life providing
the benefits of good physical and mental health, self
discovery, confidence, and self defence.
Ni
Kawa Kai, is a multi-discipline martial arts association,
and we practice what is known as 'Budo'. This includes
Karate-do, Aikido, Iaido, Jodo, Kobudo, and Zazen meditation.
We have classes for both adults and children from the
age of 5 years old, and offer exercise combined with
an interesting pastime, which helps build fitness, self
confidence and a self defence.
Why
Exercise?
Exercise is a basic need. The human body is built for
use and without regular exercise it will deteriorate,
and by denying yourself regular exercise you are functioning
below your best and the chance of getting the most out
of life. Through our system of 'Fighting Fit',
combined with Budo your fitness levels will increase,
increasing the strength, endurance and efficiency of
the heart together with increasing the ability of the
respiratory system, which helps reduce stress and tension
the product of modern living.
