How Narrow can you get
Always up for an alternative holiday and wishing to encounter
many different forms of transport, this year the Jory family set off
to discover the joys (and otherwise) of a narrowboat trip. We chose

near Rugby from a selection of catalogues.
We started on a Sunday morning and as we arrived the boats were parked up
awaiting their crews. We intended on make good progress for the first few
days and then making a decision on going round Birmingham and Tamworth or
turning back early.
We had not planned who would drive so Edmond made the decision for us
and took control. We headed down towards Rugby and camped for the night.

Edmond was late up the next day so Kevin got control for the early part of the day
until we reached Hillmorton Locks.

We agreed that Kevin and Edmond would alternate between driving and working
the locks. We then had a clear run down to Braunston Junction.

Turning right there we passed through Napton Junction
[map]
(turn right again) and Calcutt Locks. Then we went on through a further 18 locks
to finally make our overnight resting place at Sydenham, near the pub and fish & chip shop.

After a good night's sleep, Cathy stocked op the galley from the local shop and
we moved off for the heaviest day of the journey. We had three sets of locks
to tackle, at Warwick,

past Kingswood Junction

and finally tieing up for the night at the top of Knowle.

We set off the next day on the journey via Catherine de Barnes

junctions.

Elizabeth insisted on having a go, although she did get help from her brother.
We parked at Minworth for the night.

At Drayton

we came across the gothic style foot bridge which needed to be explored by Edmond and Elizabeth.
We moved onwards to Fazeley Junction

and turned via Tamworth to Polesworth

for the night.
With two days left to go and only a day and a half of distance left,
we took things a little easier, as did some of our neighbours.
As we moved down towards Atherstone

and Nuneaton,

Cathy studied the options for our next trip. We passed Marston Junction

parked at Bedworth

for our last night.
Our last day took us past Hawkesbury Junction.

Cathy was busy
completing a gift for the boatyard team to say thanks.
We completed the journey back to base

a few hours ahead of time which allowed
a leisurely clear-out of the boat before moving off home. Will we go again,
I expect so!
