Life has been interesting for the campaign groups here in Milton keynes. We have had the various planning and transport bodies of the Milton Keynes Development Corporation, (MKDC) County Council and, of course, Milton Keynes's own council. In the last few years this has changed with the passing of power from the MKDC to the Commision for the New Towns and the passing of highways responsibilities from the county to the local council.

As a result the existing campaign groups will need to evolve to meet this new structure. Within the Cycle Users' Group and Transport 2000, we have in the past spend much committee time discussing how to run the groups, where we can get members from and who we can get to audit the books. All the sorts of things that a traditional group does. This in itself does not further the aims of the groups, just the groups themselves.

We are preparing a new approach. As most members of these groups are interested in the work we do, rather than the personal benefits they can gain themselves, we can see the future with supporters who agree with our aims and objectives. Possibly, membership would not exist in the traditional way; so no membership lists, envelope stuffing for newsletters, AGMs. Instead we will use this site to publicise the views being put forward and use e-mail to contact our supporters. All of the organisations we deal with, and many of our existing members, and on e-mail.
