Jeff and Jeannie are contacted by one of the Hortweldine twins whilst the other twin contacts rival detective firm; Marshall and Snellgrove. The brothers, who distrust each other greatly, share the family home and on the eve of the reading of their father's will hire the private detectives to spend the night in the house to ensure that there is no foul play. However before long, various members of the Hortweldine family begin to appear and disappear, and Snellgrove tragically joins Marty in the afterlife. As Jeannie and Charley Marshall become close and Jeff improves his self defence,
Marty and Snellgrove return to unravel the secrets of this bizarre family.

Felia; Jeff and Marty's ex-secretary, now settled in her native Latvia is on the run from a
mysterious sect following the death of her husband and the kidnapping of her baby; Little Marty.  Jeff and Jeannie with Marty in tow arrive in Latvia and uncover a world of gangsters, female
assassins, an ancient folk hero named Butranekh and some Middlesbrough supporters. As Jeannie and Felia fight off a group of sinister Butranekh followers at an abandoned opera house, Jeff and Marty travel deep into the woods in search of Little Marty.

TWO CAN PLAY AT THAT GAME

Jeannie disappears after accepting a case from an old school friend of Jeff's; Stuart.
A bickering Jeff and Marty set off to search for Jeannie, a search which leads them to the deserted Boyle's Department Store. After finding Jeannie and Stuart and losing Marty, Jeff discovers that the department store has been re-fitted with some deadly booby traps. Meanwhile, Marty has been
transported to the mysterious realm of  Rhadamanthus-on-sea where restless souls waste away whilst at the mercy of bad comedians and seaside landladies. Eventually Marty finds enough inner strength to return to help save Jeff and Jeannie from an unseen evil.
