Description:

Humanoid species with striped (often purple and white) hair. Otherwise practically identical to Humans. Peladon was a primitive, feudal society of a mineral-rich planet, ruled from a royal citadel by a King or Queen, protected by a champion and advised by a chancellor and a high priest. Below the royal household was a privileged nobility, and below them languished lesser classes, such as the Pel miners.

At the heart of Peladonian culture was the cult of Aggedor, a religion based around the royal beast of Peladon and a rallying point in times of danger or political turmoil. Aggedor's influence should not be underestimated; for example the crime of sacrilege was punishable by death (or trial by combat if the accused was of noble blogn=right> Despite ruling a somewhat backward and superstitious society, forward-looking King Peladon took steps to improve the lot of his people by applying for membership of the Galactic Federation and inviting Federation delegates to Peladon. Although ultimately successful, this move was bitterly opposed by conservative, anti-federation factions within the royal citadel. In the resulting power struggle even the spirit of Aggedor became involved.

Pel miners rebel Ultimately however Federation membership did not benefit all. While the nobility enjoyed the benefits, the lesser classes toiled even harder, fostering anti-government feeling. The situation came to a head when the Federation went to war with Galaxy 5. Trisilicate, a rare mineral vital to the war effort, could be found in abundance on Peladon. As demand for trisilicate grew, pressure on the Pel miners increased, forcing them to mine ever-greater volumes of the mineral.

Predictably the presence of trisilicate and the resultant political tensions drew Peladon deeper into wartime intrigue as Galaxy 5 attempted infiltrate, undermine and eventually dominate the Peladonians.
