Audience

Below are all the comments we received in our audience feedback book for ‘Our Country’s Good’ at Marlin’s Wynd, Edinburgh, August 2009:

One of the best shows I’ve seen at the Fringe! Absolutely fantastic, everyone I see will hear about it.

Great rendition of a fantastic play!

That was bloody good.

Very, very good. Love Mark, who once played Shitty Meg.

One of the best things I’ve ever seen.

Extremely beautiful! Excellent use of space! Good characters development and excellent script! Not to be missed. Moving. Laura.

Brilliant use of space! So spellbound by all of it – everyone’s so dedicated! It’s beautiful. Emily.

Fantastic venue and use of rooms. Brilliant acting and overall production is excellent.

The atmosphere and the acting are both fantastic. Very impressive; everyone warned me the text was overlong, but I’ve loved every second of it!

I enjoyed that very much – all the way through.

Of the two plays I have seen since my arrival, that was definitely the most enjoyable. Though I was expecting a hanging. Well done all.

Moving, clever and interesting. So enjoyable. Hadn’t expected the tears!

Just loved the whole production. *****

You reduced me to tears.

That was fantastic – really well done, in the perfect setting. Thank you.

Different, and totally captivating in every sense. Well done.

I wanted to cry, I laughed aloud. Awesome, well done. When’s the next one?

Absolutely amazing! Incredible acting. My favourite show for the whole month. Well done. Belinda.

Great play – very sore arse?

One or two many transitions. Excellent production of a very strong text and delivers a full-blooded emotional punch.

I loved it. Thank you so much, you were all brilliant.

Every good but the play didn’t follow between seen and the crew should be part of the action i.e. crew could dress in uniform. Also it more than 2 hr more like 2 ½ hour.

This was a brilliant performance – even better than Clerkenwell. You are a very strong cast and the key themes from the play are powerfully put forward. Well done all of you. Hopefully this will go on and on!

Fantastic performance! Great space and use of it! Classic play, VERY true to the details – and having seen it only a few months ago, enjoyed seeing the developments! All were brilliant!

Extremely powerful! Very poignant.

Wow. This was by far one of the best thing I have seen at the Fringe. I only wish that the run was longer so that more people could have seen it. Fantastic!

That was an absolute triumph! Be very proud of what you achieved here. A really brave production with a great cast (and crew!). Vicki McCaig

Hard on the bum. Captain Elgard.

Amazing atmosphere created by setting and a wonderfully strong ensemble. Good sound effects, great smells make it feel really effective and believable. Funny and very moving. I love moving around. Joe William.

Excellent use of space – very atmospheric. Characterisation and direction well done, supported by fine acting, leaving relief from tense moments of suspense with comedic episodes. Anastasia McPartland.

Very well performed and co-ordinated, moving around is a bonus. Excellent!

Breathtakingly brilliant, thank you!

Fantastic. I’ve never seen the possibilities that theatre can offer exploited so well! You should all be very proud of what you’ve achieved. Thank you.

Awesome, every one of them. One of those shows I would kill to be a part of! Well done!

Really enjoyed the show, different to anything else we’ve seen. Thank you.

Easily the BEST thing I’ve seen at the fringe this year, and possibly the best production I’ve ever seen. Well done!

Having been to the fringe for the past four years I can truly say that this is a unique experience, like nothing I’ve been to before. Excellent play, well-acted in superbly atmospheric surroundings. An absolute winner.

That was an impeccable reproduction of first fleet drama and a truly stirring story. It made this Australian proud of our somewhat pathetic beginnings.

Excellent. Wonderful mix of drama and humour. Congrats to all.

Great setting and strong performances but you should have more belief in the audeince’s willingness to participate. The stewards asking the audience to move to the next space breaks the illusion and magic. Never doubt that strong performance will demand the audience follow without them even realising. A masterclass with ‘wildwoiks’ (the kings of site specific promenade theatre) would really enhance a really good and believable performance.

How did you find the place? Did it come first? Love watching something so full of fear and entrapment in the bowels of a city. Well done.
