William was born at Knockside Farm House to Ann Mc Kerron.
On his birth Certificate Ann Mc Kerron is recorded as the Mother James Stewart is later named as the father. Ann seems to have given her children to the Father to care for, she plays no further recorded part in Williams upbringing.
The next documented record of him is in 1871 when he is described as a Boarder and living with a Jane Clark a lady aged 67 at Drumfurrich, she is described as a Servant, This is a 1000 acre farm outside Charlestown. Jane is unlikely to have been a relation of Margaret Clark, Williams Grand Mother, she would hardly charge a five year old relation boarding, unfortunately the births of these ladies are not recorded sufficiently to be certain. James Stewart, his father worked as a Brick and Tile Labourer at the works just a few yards from the farm house, he may well have lodged with Mrs Clark also as it is some miles into Charlestown.
How long he stayed there is not known. James later works for the Charlestown Gas Works just a short distance from his house.
In March 1881Census William works for a John Bremmer at Lower Aikenway, Rothes, Elgin this is in fact quite close to Charlestown. John Bremmer dies on 7 April 1881 aged 86. On his death certificate it is clearly written as John Bremner, the Bremmer may be a handwritten transcription error. Elizabeth Bremner was Williams grand Mother, again unable to prove any relationship.
The next we know William is in Perth in 1891 Married to Elizabeth Stewart with a Son , James aged 1, he was a Railway Fireman.
By 1901 they lived at 18 Caledonian Buildings and he was a Engine Driver.
His wife Elizabeth died in 1923. He was a active member of the Church of the Nazarene in Perth. Later about 1937 he married again.
He died at Swinton aged 81, interred in the family grave with Gravestone in Jeanfield Perth.
In picture William is the Elder figure with his son Robert and Grandson William.
