Story of the Quarry.
Near the Ardclach Tower and above the Church is a memorial to Donald Mitchell who was the first Scottish Missionary to India. He founded a Hospital, the memorial is a copy of the one in India and gives a slightly fuller story. It is most strange that a tiny parish in the wilds of Scotland should have this distinction.
Father Mitchell and Mother Christian Gordon, Alexander Sage who came to Ardclach was also married to a Gordon in 1709.
Sages were in Ardclach about 1740 so probably missed even the father. Donald McIntosh would have been at this Church as he was born 1800.
Ardclach Church, Ardclach is a Parish name consists of several Farms and a cluster of houses (12) at Ferness. This is the Church
in a very pleasant round Valley. Sages also lived here from 1705 to 1742 at least.
