Early Story.

Ardclach. This is the Church at Ardclach, it is in a round Valley surrounded on all sides by hills. This building was built in 1813 replacing another, several gravestones are much older. William Sage born 1739 was born in Ardclach, this is a parish that covers a wide area and includes Ferness, all dozen houses.

Auldearn Stone . Mostly the Sages stayed about Auldearn. This Memorial stone was found in the Old Church (Choir) . It is to the Rev Thomas Gordon born 1710, he was the Minister at Cabrach for 8 years, this is a strong candidate for the Stewarts origin about a 100 years later. After that he was the Auldearn Minister for 46 years from 1747 to his death in 1793. William Sage above married Espet Jackson in 1767 in Auldearn, he was probably the Minister who performed the ceremony. Today Auldearn is a Village surrounding the Church on a rise. The Older Houses circle the hill around the Church. The original Church was rebuilt in 1757 after a fire. The ruined Choir is attached to it.

Auldearn Stone . Loch Flemington at the heart of Parish of Petty where Sages lived from 1688 to 1750

From Mrs C Ritchie Collection.

The originals are small prints or negatives. The image shown here is a portion of the complete picture to show the essential part of the picture. Most are about one inch by one and a half inch sections, they look best on screen.

Sage Family

Since members of the Sage Family is included in other Families this is only Direct Sage pictures.

All Sages. From Left George, Effie, David, Christina, Janet, Edgar and in front Grannie and Grandpa Sage. Printable picture in the Wedding Album.

David and Son. David Sage holding John David Sage with Dorothy behind accompanied by Effie, Aunt Ethel and Uncle George Sage, Christina (Mum), Janet.

George Ethel . Uncle George Sage and Ethel on the occasion of their marriage. This is from a small print.

Holiday Home.

In the 1930 era the Sage's had a country cottage at Clathy near Findo Gask, some photos of a visit have survived from 1936, they do not have names on them so had to guess. Some relations of the Sages lived at Findo Gask this may have been the Cottage.

map Clathy. 1 is Clathy, 2 Tibbermore where the Chalmers and the Stewarts cross, 3 is the Ex-Home of the Ritchies.

The Bikers. This is Uncle George and his Dad who would have been 62 (could be the person they are visiting) on a Motor Bike.

Clathy House. This modern shot is roughly from where the above was taken. The white cottage is a small two roomed style Cottage that looks Old and has been Modernised in keeping. The gap in front of the White cottage was a hedge as in the Photo. The large House is the Clathy Farm house, again unchanged. The stone wall is the only one in the village on the road, in the Original photos it has a hedge behind it. The Cottage grounds are extensive and used to contain several buildings.

George at Clathy. Uncle George Sage at Clathy. No doubt watching his bike. The wall seems to have been inside the Cottage grounds, no longer exists.

Effie on the Bike. This young Lady looks like Effie but may not be, in 1936 she would have been 23.

Girl at Clathy. This photo was taken at the same time as the others quite who she is is unknown.

Robert Sage Family.

Some prints exist that have been identified as Robert Sage and his family. Robert was the Brother of George our Grandpa, so he would have been Uncle to George's children and his Kids Nephews Nieces. Since a camera was known to be in use in 1936 assume this may have been taken about then.

Robert Sage. Robert Sage is the Gent with the Beard age 59, Gilbert Sage his son age 13, the daughters are harder, Alice would be 20 behind Robert?, Jessie was 26, Christina was 29 and Jane 31, take your pick. Isabella may be the person in the darker dress she would have been 53. The last known adr for Robert was Canal St, (parallel to South St) this shot looks like a South Inch Park Bench picture. The photographer could have been the other daughter or his Wife Isabella. Suspect that the Wife would have been in the Group so probably not her, but she seems to be part of the following story.

Robert Sage Wife and Children.

Some connected photos of persons, again only the barest information is available. Originals are small prints. These image's are about 1.5 inch by 2 inch.

These three are connected. The prints look the same and someone has written in pencil 33 on them all, perhaps a job number.
All Sages. On the rear is written "Grandmama and Sonny Boy" This was probably taken in 1932 as a another print of Teenie looks the same state and is dated 28/8/32. The gardens have several clumps of Michealmas Daisies, the front window is a Bow style, probably semi-detached. Since Teennie or Tinnie is used for a Christina, the Teenie here could be Christina Peebles Sage, born 1907 and Grandmama would be Isabella Ferguson wife of Robert Sage the Brother of Grandpa Sage.

Teenie. This print has "Teenie" "Among the Daisies" written on the rear. The full picture shows a substantial house but no idea where it is. Probably the rear of the House where Grandmama lived. The child called Sonny Boy is probably Teenies Son as the Photos are similar.

Teenie and Sis. Caption on back is "Teenie and Sis" and a description of where it is, "The "Pergoda", Peasholm Park, Scarborough" dated 28/8/32. But who took it, another Sister? The sister would either have been Jessie or Alice.

Mother and Child. The elder lady is the same one as called Granmama above, the younger lady is probably her daughter.

Family group. This is the same girl as above , same outfit worn down to the necklace, the gent should be her Husband and the children the family. Since this shows kids about 7-9 years old it makes the mother about 31 so born about 1905 and Unidentified. The elder lady should then be Isabella and she would be the Kids Grandmama age here about 49. Have no information about marriages of Robert Sage kids as they become modern and probably alive.

Isabella Sage Girls. Traveling back in time we have this commercial print showing the same lady as above so is Isabella Sage and her two Eldest Girls, Jane Sage and Christina Peebles Sage. Someone has helped by writing in a childish hand the word "Kirsty" on the rear, she is the smaller child.

This picture has been carefully mounted with rice paper holding it onto its embossed mount. The actual image is 1 inch by 1.3 inch. There is no clue as to who it could be but was with the rest of the Photos, the person it is most like is Jane Sage slightly older above.

Unknown Child.

Just to finish the story,

Who?. Who?.
These picture seem to be of the same people, perhaps it shows Jessie and Alice with one of the Husbands. Since another shot has the Girl in White out of shot and she seems younger then this would be Jessie's Husband and she is wearing the flowery dress. The motor bike and cars seem modern so this may be a more recent shot, the bike maker is blurred.

˛Library˛ ˛Brittannia˛ This building next to the North Inch, near Barrossa Place has on top a Figure of Brittannia, this was placed there by Edgar Robertson. He is also called Edward in some records.
The figure is also shown a bit bigger.
