The show opened on 6 November for a four week run at Jermyn Street Theatre. It features her most famous songs, including Dancing on the Ceiling, It’s Love Again and, of course, Over My Shoulder.
Playing Jessie is the lady who starred in the original production of The Boy Friend, and won the Sarah Siddons Award as Eliza in the first USA tour of My Fair Lady – Anne Rogers.
Miss Rogers subsequently took over from Julie Andrews as Eliza at Drury Lane, and starred in She Loves Me and I Do! I Do! Her record of The Sound Of Music sold over a million copies. She comes to OVER MY SHOULDER, having recently starred in Out Of Order with Ray Cooney in America.
The part of Young Jessie is taken by the effervescent Suzy Bloom, one of the most rapidly rising musical actresses in London. She won raves as Becky in Vanity Fair at 2001’s Covent Garden Festival, and high-kicked her way through Chicago.
OVER MY SHOULDER sparked unprecedented interest at Jermyn Street Theatre. It was a wonderful tribute to an evergreen star.
