Reflexology in York
| History of Reflexology
There is evidence that the Egyptians and Chinese used healing therapies, that applied pressure to points on the hands and feet, over 4,000 years ago. Various forms of this pressure therapy have been taught and practiced across Thailand, China, Tibet, Japan and most of the Far East for hundreds of years. Reflexology was described in its current form by an American lady called Eunice Ingham. Her method of treatment was based on the work of Dr. William Fitzgerald, an American "Ears Nose and Throat" surgeon. He had discovered that pressure to certain points on the body would inhibit pain in another part of the body. He used this technique to perform minor operations without an anaesthetic, and developed a related therapy called "Zone Therapy" in the 1920's. Reflexology was brought to Britain by Doreen Bayly in the 1960's and has grown rapidly to become one of the the most popular and powerful non-invasive health treatments available.
