The importance of preventative health care

Having previously worked as a manager in a competitive commercial environment, I am very aware of the importance of having a healthy, motivated, and efficient workforce. It is an essential factor in the success of every company.

However, the effects of stress and minor ailments can become cumulative if left untreated. This can adversely affect an individual’s performance at work, and also impact on their home life, as they become increasingly tired and lacking in motivation. Prolonged stress depletes the immune system leaving the individual prone to further ailments. In some cases it can result in periods of sick absence.

The cost to the company and to the individual is significant. Yet while many employers provide excellent working conditions, support services and sickness benefits, their approach to health care tends to be more traditionally focused on reactive than preventative measures.

The role of Reflexology in preventative healthcare is rapidly becoming more widely acknowledged. An increasing number of companies, including Marks & Spencer, BT, Freeserve, Grattons, Freemans and BUPA are now working in partnership with Reflexologists to actively improve the health of their workforce.

Reflexology is recognised by many doctors, consultants and other health care professionals, as a well-established, respected and effective therapy.
