It
was with great sadness that we learnt in August of the passing of that League
and County stalwart, Bill Arden, at the age of 93. Bromyard Club, League and
County representatives attended his funeral service at St. Andrew’s Church,
Bredenbury.
Bill
moved to Herefordshire in 1983 and joined the Bromyard Club and played for them
until well into his 80s. He was a Committee member on HCTTA and Vice-chairman
of HTTL until 2006. He invariably attended Bromyard Club nights and, even when
not playing, would take along one of his bottomless refreshment boxes often
with smoked salmon, mince pies, wagon wheels and (occasionally) beer and
sherry!
Bill
started playing in 1935 but after joining the Artillery at the start of WW2,
his career was cut short by being one of the 30,000 men left behind at
However,
they did exercise and Bill unfortunately suffered a serious head injury when
vaulting and was repatriated back to
His
aim was to play into his 80s and this he achieved.

HTT LEAGUE 2011-12
The season starts on Monday 26th September. The
Handbooks and score cards will be distributed this week by hand or post.
The number of teams continues
to decline and only 18 teams entered for the coming season.
The Committee decided to
continue with 2 Divisions with 10 teams in Div.1 and 8 in Div. 2. There are 2
byes in Div. 2 – are there any late entries out there?
Please note
the team captain changes for Weobley Warriors and Woolhope Phenix. There is 1
new junior team, G F Bishops with Simon Morgan as Captain and Senior player
(note new contact details).
No teams have changed their
names - still the usual suspects
PLEASE CHECK YOUR HANDBOOKS.
Harry Jutle is your new
Chairman with rod
The Committee is still
looking for an Honorary General Secretary – is there one out there?
*** ONLINE ***
We have now initiated a new league management system, and the first part of the process is getting
everyone's details into the system correctly listed.
What better way of starting
this process than having you all enter your own details into the system as you
apply to join the league for this coming season.
It is not an absolute
requirement that you do it, as you can see you can still fill in the form as
normal with an old fashioned pen and paper and then we will enter it in for
you! But it would be super useful if you could fill it all in for us
through the new form we have created online for you.
Here is where the form lives: http://www.httl.org.uk/applynow use it once you have all the information to
hand.
Super simple ... it even adds
up how much you need to pay for you!
Payment can be made either by
paying the fee calculated straight into our bank account - if you choose to do
this, it is essential enter the name of your team as the reference so we can
match up payment with teams. Alternatively you can still send us a
cheque.
Expect many more interesting
developments as we seek to simplify and improve the management of the league.
Payment of fees: By Online /
cheque / postal order, payable to "Hereford Table Tennis League". If Online then essential the team
name is used as the reference. Account No. 00204782 Sort

HTT LEAGUE 2011-12
The season is now well under way and I’m sure you
don’t need reminding that the score cards needed stamps. If any of your players
are still short of a Handbook please contact the Acting Hon. General Secretary.
There is at least one error
in the Handbook – Ted Andrews was omitted from the list of Committee members.
If you spot any more please let me know.
POSTPONEMENTS
There were a surprising
number of postponements in the first five weeks of this season. If it is
necessary, you must inform the match Secretary as soon as possible (Rule 6.2)
and the any new date for the match also sent to Mark.
Please make use of the ‘free’
week commencing 5th December to catch up on your fixtures – you
never know when the snow may arrive!
WESTERN MASTERS T T
Harry has asked to remind you
that the Western Masters TT is once again being held at Hereford Leisure Centre
on 7th & 8th January 2012.
Thanks to James Dance and
Richard Maddrell the League now has its own
clever and simple to use electronic management system. It has been set
up to provide up-to-the minute information on all matches played and can be
accessed through Google as Hereford Table Tennis League. You can now check
match cards of any match played and review every player and team statistics.
Cards can be scanned or photographed and e-mailed to Mark or stamped and
posted. Mark is, I’m told, enjoying the simplicity of the system which does all
the calculations after Mark enters the information. If e-mailed from the match,
the result may be on the web site before you get home!
There is a News page which
currently shows the draw for the 2nd Round of the Wenderlish Cup.
James is also working on
several new features including:
·
Enter the
scorecard from your home computer.
·
Players doubles
statistics.
·
Access by smart
phones, Android Tablets and iPads.
Team
Captains making application to join the League next season will be able to
select their team from past registered players (no need to check date of birth,
ETTA numbers, etc – just make sure any changes are up-dated) or add new
players. For those without internet access Application Forms will still be
available.
