Hereford Table Tennis Club

In the 2002 Herefordshire over 40’s County Championship just held, the on form player was Dave Hamer from Weobley who has qualified for the Final in two events to be played on Friday 22^nd March at Whitecross School .

In the main event, the Vets singles, Dave played the number one seed Harry Jutle in the semi final and beat him 27:25, 21;17. His only defeat on the day having come from John Hunt in the early group matches when he just lost 21:11, 20:22, 21:23.

Dave then went on to play doubles with his team mate Chris Harrison and defeated the No 2 seeds Norman Merchant / Neville Meredith 21:14, 23;21 in the first round and played James Palmer / Bob Ateyo in the semi Final, winning 14:21, 21:12, 21:11. In the other semi final the other on form player Gordon Stables partnered by Harry Jutle beat Steve Farr / Steve Watkins 22:20, 21;12 to win a place in the event final.

Gordon seeded 1 also made it to the final of the over 60’s singles where he defeated the no 2 seed Norman Merchant 23:21, 21;15.

John Hunt also had a good day and made it to the Final of the Restricted singles event where he lost, in a hard fought and entertaining match, to Geoff Mutton 21:19, 17:21, 17:21. This event is for players who have never won a veterans event so I am sure John will be back next year to try again.

The remaining events in this years Table Tennis County Championships are the Junior events to be played on Sat 2nd MARCH and the Senior events being played on Sun 17^th MARCH. At Whitecross School. Spectators are welcome to come and watch both events.
