COUNTY TABLE TENNIS RESULTS on Saturday 15-Sep-2002

Senior Division 2B Hereford played their first season fixture home to Somerset resulting in a 5-5 draw. Mark Owen won 2, with single wins for Alistair Dawson, Andy Castle and Sue Segust. Jessica Davies put up a spirited fight against her older opponents to force games to 4^th and 5^th sets. Awaiting full match report from Rod Dawson.

Veteran Division 3C Hereford 1^st played their first season fixture home to Middlesex 3^rd resulting in a 3-6 loss. After finishing runner-up in Division 4C last season, they found the promotion to division 3C tough going. Mark Owen helped the team, (Gordon Stables not available), winning both his games, but not easily as expected, one at 18-16! Mark with Harry Jutle also helped to win the Men's doubles. Harry and Norman Merchant narrowly lost a single each in the 5^th set. During the match 2 went into the 5^th set, 1 into the 4^th, and 6 into deuce.

Veteran Division 4D Hereford 2^nd played away against Wiltshire 3^rd resulting in a 1-8 loss. Mike Wheatley scored the only win in the 4^th set and lost his other in the 5^th set. Linda Ashman and Neville Meredith lost their mixed doubles in the 4^th set, 2 of them at deuce. During the match 1 went into the 5^th set, 5 into the 4^th, and 5 into deuce.

Veteran Division 4C Hereford 3^rd played home to Shropshire resulting in a 1-8 loss. The single win came from the mixed doubles pair Steve Farr and Margaret Shock in the 5^th set. Steve was very unlucky to lose one of the singles at deuce in the 5^th, and the second with 2 at duece again. The men's doubles pair Mike Morgan and Bob Marshall lost in the 4^th. During the match 2 went into the 5^th set, 1 into the 4^th, and 6 into deuce.

COUNTY TABLE TENNIS RESULTS on Saturday 19th October 2002

Veteran Division 3C Hereford 1^st played their second season fixture away against Gloucester 2nd resulting in an exciting 5-4 win! This was a complete turnaround from a 1-8 defeat last year, and gives a great boost for the team to stay up in the higher division, after winning promotion. Norman Merchant and Helen Green were the stars of the day winning all 4 of their matches (Helen easily and Norman battling it out to 5^th game deciders in both (7-10 down in the one to eventually win it 20-18!). Gordon Stables also turned a previous defeat to a win in the 4^th for the 5-4 result. Harry Jutle lost both, one in the 4^th. During the match 2 went into the 5^th set, 3 into the 4^th, and 6 into deuce.

Senior Division 2B Hereford played their second season fixture away against Avon resulting in a 2-8 defeat. Mark Owen won the 2, one in the 4^th. Andy Castle forced both into the 4^th, and John Hunt one. Carol Milnes and Margaret Shock found the opposition too strong, although Carol did force one to deuce. During the match 4 went into the 4^th, and 3 into deuce.

Junior Division 3C Hereford played their first season fixture home against Devon 2nd resulting in a 1-9 defeat. Greg Price had to play to his best ability for the single win into the 5^th set. The result does not reflect the tough match with 5 going into the 5^th set, 3 into 4^th and 4 into deuce. Nikki Segust forced both games to the 5^th set, Alistair Dawson one. Joe and Jessica Davies forced one each into the 4^th.

Mike Wheatley, Mike Morgan and Mike Belfield played better in the latter part of the match taking a game into the 4^th each. During the match 3 went into the 4^th, and 4 into deuce. Linda Batson found her counterpart a bit too strong.

COUNTY TABLE TENNIS RESULTS on Saturday 02-Nov-2002

Junior Division 3C Hereford played a double match away against Cornwall 1^st and 2^nd resulting in 8-2 and 10-0 wins! This was tremendous achievement and a gutsy performance by the Hereford side after going 0-2 down in the first 2 games, losing both narrowly in the 5^th against Cornwall 1^st. Greg Price was in form to win all his 4 games comfortably in straight sets. Jessica Davies also won all her 4 games only dropping one set at deuce. Nikki Segust had to work hard for her 4 victories as she was pushed into two 5^th setters and one into 4^th. Nick Wilson was also pushed into two 5^th setters, losing the one, and winning two in straight sets and one in the 4^th. Joe Davies lost one in the 5^th set, but won the rest in the 4^th. During the match 4 went into the 5^th set, 6 into the 4^th, and 14 to deuce.

Norman Merchant won the last game in straight games to save a whitewash from strong opposition who hope to win the division. Sharon Powell fought hard only to lose in the 5^th set, with 3 games going to deuce in the women's singles. Harry Jutle and Gordon Stables also lost in the 5^th set in the men's doubles. Harry lost 2 at deuce, with the opposition always producing something extra at critical moments. During the match 2 went into the 5^th set, 1 into the 4^th, and 6 into deuce.

Senior Division 2B Hereford played a double match away against Devon 2^nd and 3^rd resulting in 2-8 defeat and a 5-5 draw earning a vital point. Mark Owen won 3 out of 4 in straight sets and lost the 4th in the 5^th set with 3 going to deuce. Andy Castle won 2, one in the 5^th set. Alistair Dawson pushed 2 into the 5^th set winning one, losing the other at deuce and pushed others to deuce. Helen Green won one in straight sets, lost others in a 5^th, 4^th and straight sets. Carol Milnes pushed one into the 4^th set and 2 to deuce. During the match 5 went into the 5^th set, 2 into the 4^th, and 17 into deuce.

The winning games scored by Helen Green, Norman Merchant and Helen and Norman partnership in the mixed doubles. Harry Jutle pushed one into the 4^th and the other to deuce. Veteran Division 4D Hereford 2^nd played hosts to Sussex 4^th resulting in a 3-6 loss. Carol Milnes had a good day winning her singles in the 4^th set, and the mixed doubles in the 5^th set , with her partner Neville Meredith. The 3^rd win was a walkover for Neville against an opponent who picked up an injury during the doubles match after running into a corner of the scoring table. John Hunt and Steve Farr pushed a singles each into the 4^th set, and the doubles during the Men's doubles. During the match 1 went into the 5^th set, 5 went into the 4^th, and 3 into deuce.

Junior Division 3C Hereford played hosts to Devon 3^rd resulting in an exciting 6-4 win! Greg Price Jessica Davies and Nikki Segust were on form to win 2 each to bring about the victory. Nick Wilson was unlucky to lose one in the 5^th and the other in the 4^th. Joe Davies lost one at deuce in the 5^th and the other in straight sets. This win keeps them on track for the runner-up position again, as achieved last season.

Veteran Division 4D Hereford 2^nd played hosts to Berkshire 5^th resulting in a thrilling 5-4 win! This is their first win for which they were pushed all the way by their opponents. The team started 0-2 down, then responded by winning the next 4 to go 4-2 up (Neville Meredith and Sharon Powell in their singles and Mixed doubles, John Hunt and Steve Farr in the Men's doubles). The opposition responded by winning the next 2. To decide the outcome Steve Farr went on- lost the first, won the next 2, lost the 4^th and won the 5^th and final set 11-9 to finish the enthralling encounter. During the match 4 went into the 5^th set, 2 went into the 4^th, and 7 into deuce.

Scores: Sharon Powell 5-11, 11-7, 11-9, 6-11, 11-6. Sharon and Neville in mixed doubles 11-1, 3-11, 14-12, 11-4. Neville Meredith 12-10, 11-8, 14-12 and 4-11, 10-12, 2-11. Harry Jutle pushed one into the 4^th as well as Helen and Gordon Stables in the Mixed doubles. Bob Marshall was 9-5 up in one, only to lose 9-11. During the match 2 went into the 4^th, and 2 into deuce.

Junior Division 3C Hereford played away against Avon resulting in a 7-3 win! Greg Price continued his good form to win both games in straight sets. Jessica Davies won both, only dropping one game. Nikki Segust also won both, one in the 5^th and the other in the 4^th. Joe Davies won one in the 4^th, but lost the other in the 5^th set. Nick Wilson was unlucky to lose both in the 5^th sets, 14-16 in the one. This win keeps them on track for the runner-up position again, as achieved last season.

Mark Owen won all his 4 matches in the 4^th set. Andy Castle won 3 out of 4, two in the 4^th and one in the 5^th at 15-13. Helen Green also won 3 out of 4, one in straight sets, two in the 4^thand and her loss was in the 5^th set at 13-15. Alistair Dawson won 2 in straight sets, lost one the 4^th and the other in the 5^th sets. Margaret Shock lost in straight sets. During the match 4 went into the 5^th set, 8 into the 4^th, and 5 into deuce.

Helen Green won her singles and the Mixed doubles with Norman Merchant in straight sets. Harry Jutle underlined the victory by a single win in the 5^th set. Norman Merchant lost his singles in the 4^th and at deuce in the 5^th set. During the match 2 went into the 5^th set, 3 into the 4^th, and 5 into deuce. This second win should ensure us to avoid relegation.

COUNTY TABLE TENNIS RESULTS on Saturday 22^ndMarch 2003

Junior Division 3C Hereford played hosts to Devon 4^th in their last encounter of the season with a comfortable 9-1 win! They came runner-up again as last season, with the only defeat at the start of the season to Devon 2^nd. Alistair Dawson, Greg Price, Nikki Segust and Jessica Davies won 2 each easily in straight sets, apart from Greg going into the 4^th in one. Joe Davies won one in straight sets, although 2 at deuce, and lost the other in a 5 set thriller 11-13. Greg had an excellent season with only one loss to score an average of 91.7%. Nikki and Jessica only had 2 losses each to score an average of 83.3%. Alistair also only had 2 losses but only played twice to score an average of 50%- he played most matches at Senior level. Joe Davies must be disappointed with his average at 41.7%- well down on last season. Nick Wilson stepped in when Alistair played for the Senior team to achieve 37.5%. During the match 1 went into the 5^th set, 1 into 4th and 3 into deuce.

The team found tough going in the higher division after winning promotion last season, but feel they have done enough to stay up, and look forward to improve their position next season. Norman Merchant had a win in straight sets to finish with an average of 41.7%- his personal best, and lost the 2^nd in the 5^th set. Gordon Stables had an impressive win in 5 against a very highly ranked player, and lost the 2^nd in the 4th. Helen Green should have won her singles against the very highly ranked lady as she led 8-3 in the 5^th set, but the opposition called a timeout to offer her advice and came back to win 11-9. Harry Jutle lost one in the 4^th set, 1^st game 14-16, and the 2^nd in straight sets, but 2 at deuce. Both doubles were lost in the 4^th. During the match 3 went into the 5^th set, 4 into the 4^th, and 5 into deuce.

Wheatley with Linda Ashman narrowly lost the mixed doubles in the 5^th. Morgan lost the other in the 4^th. During the match 3 went into the 5^th set, 1 went into the 4^th, and 1 into deuce.

Junior Division 3C Hereford played host against Shropshire 2^nd resulting in a 6-4 win. Coach Dave Gough commented that this was a tough match as both teams were well matched. The team supported each other and fought hard to achieve the win. Joe Davies won both games, with a single win each for Alistair Dawson, Greg Price, Nikki Segust and Jessica Davies. During the match 3games went into the 5^th, 3 into 4^th and 9 to deuce.

Veteran Division 4C The Hereford 1^st team of Harry Jutle, Gordon Stables, Norman Merchant and Helen Green beat the Hereford 3^rd team of Mike Morgan, Bob Marshall, Tony Williams and Margaret Shock 9-0. However the 1^st team had to earn their victory because during the match the men's doubles went to a 5^th game decider, 3 singles to 4^th and 5 to deuce (3 of these between Mike Morgan and Gordon Stables).

Junior Division 3C Hereford played away against Cornwall resulting in a 5-5 draw. They are 2^nd at the moment and their Coach Dave Gough said the team had to fight hard to achieve this result. Jessica Davies had the best result winning both her games in straight sets. Nikki Segus won one easily, but lost the second in a 5^th setter with 3 games going to deuce. Greg Price won one in the 4^th, but also lost the second in a 5^th setter. Joe Davies won one in a 5^th setter and Alistair Dawson lost both in 5^th setters. During the match 5 games went into the 5^th, 1 into 4^th and 10 to deuce.

COUNTY TABLE TENNIS RESULTS on Saturday 26-Jan-2002

Veteran Division 4C Hereford 1^st played home to Somerset 3^rd resulting in a 8-1 win! Mark Owen, playing his 1^st match for the Veterans, helped the team out due to Gordon Stables not being able to play, winning both his games in straight sets, although one did go to juice. Harry Jutle also won both singles dropping only one close game. Helen Green won her singles in straight sets, with the 1^st going to deuce. Harry and Mark won the men's doubles in straight sets, although 2 games went to deuce. Helen and Norman won their mixed doubles in 4 set, losing the 2^nd 15-17! Norman Merchant won a single in straight sets, but lost the other in the 5^th deciding set.

During the match 1 went into the 5^th set, 2 into the 4^th, and 7 into deuce. With this win Hereford maintain 2^nd place, with one match to go. This is the highest position ever achieved by our County side.

COUNTY TABLE TENNIS RESULTS on Saturday 09-Mar-2002

Junior Division 3C Hereford played host to Cornwall 2^nd resulting in a 9-1 win! It was a wonderful display of skill, talent and sheer determination as 3 went into 5^th setters, 2 into 4^th and 3 into deuce. This win ensures they finish in the top 3 the highest ever achieved by our County, but the actual position depends on how other teams have done this weekend. Joe Davies won both in the 5^th achieving the best end of season result average of 78.6%. His sister Jessica came next with 2 comfortable wins with an average of 71.4%. Alistair Dawson had the only loss of the day with 2 in deuce, with an average of 64.3%. Greg Price also won 2, one in the 5^th and other in the 4^th, with an average of 58.3%. Lauren James stepped in for Nikki Segus (being unwell), and scored 2 wins. Nikki's average 57.1%. Nick Wilson also played a game earlier in the season achieving an average of 50%.

Veteran Division 4C Hereford played host to Devon 4^th which resulted in a 6-3 win! This win ensures our side a RUNNER UP spot, another first for the County. The opposition started off well building with a 2-0 lead before Harry Jutle got our side on the board. The mixed doubles partnership of Helen Green and Norman Merchant made it 2-2, maintaining their 100% record. Harry and Gordon Stables then made it 3-2 in the men's doubles, in 5 sets. Helen then won the women's singles easily to lead 4-2. The opposition struck back against Gordon, who lost his 2^nd one also in the 5^th set. It then looked as if Hereford were going to lose the next one as well, because Harry was 2-0 down and struggling in the 3^rd until Harry found a serve to trouble the fired up penholder. Harry then went on to win this and the following 2 games to make certain of a win at 5-3. Norman Merchant underlined the win by winning his 2^nd game in the 4^th. Helen was undefeated this season with a 100% average; Harry Jutle scored a personal best of 83.3%, Norman Merchant 58.3% and Gordon 37.5%.

The opposition were too strong for our side although the team Captain Mike Belfield almost avoided the whitewash losing the last one in the 4^th with 2 at deuce. Mike Wheatley, Mike Belfield and Steve Farr finished the season with an average of 25%, and Mike Morgan at 12.5%.

The team went 2-0 down before Richard Owens put Hereford on the board, following on with a mixed doubles win in the 5^th set at 15-13, partnering Sue Segus to make it 2-2. John Hunt and Brian Caldicutt lost the men's doubles in the 4^th, then Sue had her first women's singles win to make it 3-3. Hereford were unable to contain Wiltshire in the last 3 games losing 4 sets at deuce. Carol Milnes and Sue Segus finished the season at 50% average, John Hunt 25% Richard Owens 16.7% and Neville Meredith 12.5%.

COUNTY TABLE TENNIS RESULTS on Saturday 09-Sep-2000

Junior Div 3C Hereford matches were brought forward a week to enable us to reorganise matches and coaches. We travelled to St. Austell in Cornwall to play the two Cornwall teams and the two Devon teams. Since making these arrangements our travel was disrupted and the withdrawl of coaches did not make the situation work out for us. After a long and cramped journey the team were not sufficiently prepared against strong opposition, but as the day progressed our results improved.

Against Cornwall1st 0-10, Devon 2^nd 0-10, Devon 3^rd 3-7, Cornwall 2^nd 5-5.

As far as the boys went Alistair Dawson and Joe Davies played in all matches and were unlucky not to have won more games- they lacked support from other members. On the girls side Nikki Seagust won her first County game and came very close in her other games but again lacked the support from others. A lesson was learnt in trying to play four matches in a day and not having the resources to cope. Thanks to Bob Davies and Sue Seagust who came and gave invaluable assistance. Veterans Div 4D Due to the fuel crises the only fixture played was by Hereford 2^nd away against Wiltshire 3^rd resulting in 1-8 loss. Linda Ashman started the season well with a win over Liz Whittaker beating her for the first time in a 3^rd game decider. Other 3 matches also went to a 3^rd game decider.

NATIONAL JUNIOR LEAGUE TABLE TENNIS RESULTS on Saturday 14-Oct-2000

The first round of matches were played at Ledbury Leisure Centre with 3 teams from Hereford, 2 form Evesham and 1 from Malvern. Hereford A completely outclassed the opposition, but the remaining teams seem well matched.

Round1 results: Hereford A 36 points, Evesham Lions 21 points, Hereford B 14 points, Malvern 14 points, Hereford C 12 points, Evesham Tigers 11 points.

COUNTY TABLE TENNIS RESULTS on Saturday 21-Oct-2000

Veteran Division 4C Hereford 1^st won 8-1 against Hereford 3^rd. Mike Wheatley kicked off the 3^rd team to a good start against Gordon Stables winning in straight games. On his 2^nd match against Harry Jutle Mike continued his best form to win the 1^st game comfortably. Harry had to raise his game to beat Mike in the next two.

Malvern A have made an attempt to reduce the dominance of Hereford A by signing a new player Eak Sugkaroek. Sugkaroek, who used to play for Colwall in the Hereford & Malvern League, made an immediate impression when he overcame previously unbeaton Joe Davies. However, he failed to gain victory against Hereford's other unbeaten player, Alistair Dawson, in a spectacular. Hereford A hung on for a draw and remain top of the division.

Junior Div 3C Hereford played away against Shropshire 1^st and 2^nd resulting in a 3-7 loss and a 7-3 win. Against the 1^st team Nikki Seagust won one in the 3^rd and the other 2 wins came from a walkover after the Shropshire Coach withdrew one of his lads for misconduct. This 1^st team is a very strong side and our girls battled well to force all their games to a 3^rd game decider in each case. Against the 2^nd Nikki won both in straight sets and Jessica Davies also won both, although both went to a 3^rd game decider. Single wins for the boys Joe Davies, Alistair Dawson, and Greg Price, although Greg was unlucky to lose his 2^nd at juice in both games.

This was an enthralling match with excitement, tension, and superb play by both teams, who were well matched, with 4 going into a 3^rd game decider. A double win for Gordon Stables who was in splendid form, a single for Harry Jutle and the mixed doubles win for Carol Milnes and Norman Merchant partnership to maintain their 100%, but were pushed all the way in the final deciding 3^rd set.

NATIONAL JUNIOR LEAGUE TABLE TENNIS RESULTS on Saturday 11-Mar-2001

Hereford A strode to victory in the inaugural season of the Ledbury Division of the Schildkrot National Junior Table Tennis League.

The Hereford side of Greg price, Ali Dawson, Joe Davies, Nikki Seagust and Lauren James became champions of the 10-team division with a total of 153 points, 29 ahead of second position Malvern.

Dawson was unbeaten throughout, while Davies and Price fell to just one defeat apiece and the Hereford team are now hoping for promotion to the British Junior League.

Plans are in place to run the division again next year, along with an under-14 competition. Any teams, including clubs and schools, who are interested in entering should contact county development officer Steve Watkins on 07970 952364.

Veteran Division 4D Hereford 2^nd were handed their first victory at 9-0 without lifting a bat, due to Cornwall unable to field a side for our home fixture. The team consisted of Neville Meredith, John Hunt, Ray Cooke and Linda Ashman.

Veteran Division 4C Hereford 1^st played away against Hertfordshire 7^th losing 4-5, despite a 2-0 lead, because the opposition had no lady available. Richard Owens won a single and mens doubles partnered by Harry Jutle. The crucial game turned out to be the first, as Harry failed to win the 2^nd at 20-18, having won the 1^st, and lost the 3^rd in another close game.

At this point we were 1-5 down and came back to 4-5 to make the score look more respectable. Single wins for Harry, Gordon and Norman, with a mixed doubles win for Carol and Norman.

In the Junior Div 3C Hereford played host to Shropshire resulting in a disappointing 2-8 defeat.Emily Birt continued her success to end the last match of the season scoring the only wins of the day. Jenny Spencer was unavailable for this fixture, but congratulations to Jessica Davis on her debut to play her first County game and showed a tremendous character to play a positive game, and not be daunted by her older opponents. Emily scored 21-14,21-15 and 21-15,21-15. Jessica scored 7-21,7-21 and 9-21,6-21. Tom Peters scored 12-21,16-21 and 14-21,21-15,10-21. Sam Lloyd scored 17-21,17-21 and 8-21,8-21. Jessica’s older brother Joe Davis scored 11-21,21-19,12-21 and 15-21,15-21.

In the Veterans Div 3C Hereford Third played their last match of the season away against Wiltshire second resulting in a 2-7 loss. A single win for Norman Merchant and a mixed doubles win for Richard Owens and Carol Milnes. Richard scored 12-21,15-21 and 13-21,21-14,19-21. Norman scored 15-21,18-21 and 19-21,21-14,21-9. A great result in the Junior Div 3C when Hereford met Gloucester 2^nd, at Queen Elizabeth High School, Bromyard, resulting in a 8-2 win! Joe Davies, Jenny Spencer and Emily Birt scored two wins each, with Tom Peters and Sam Lloyd a single. Joe having been unlucky to lose at deuce on many occasions had to work hard for his victories scoring 14-21,21-14,21-17 and 21-15,12-21,21-11. Jenny won 21-9,21-14 and 21-18,21-18. Emily also had to fight to win 21-19,16-21,21-9 and 21-10,17-21,21-16. Tom scored 21-16,21-15 and 14-21,21-16,17-21. Sam scored 21-9,21-19 and 15-21,15-21.

The only last round of matches left to be played are scheduled for 27^th March when the Juniors are home to Shropshire, and Veterans 2^nd are away to Wiltshire 2^nd.

In the Senior Div 2B Hereford played home against the top team Glamorgan resulting in a 3-7 loss. Hereford are at 3 rd position at the moment. Sally Davies scored 2 wins with Michael Owens a single. This is Michael's first loss having won 15 out of 16 games.

Sally scored 21-13,21-18 and 21-19,21-16. Michael scored 13-21,11-21 and 21-18,21-15. Mark Stubbs was unlucky to lose both games at 20-22, 23-25 and 21-11,13-21,19-21. Sharon Powell also gave her best to lose 21-18,14-21,14-21 and 21-18,15-21,14-21. Andy Castle lost 7-21,12-21 and 15-21,14-21.

In the Junior Div 3C Hereford played away against the top team Somerset also resulting in a 3-7 loss. Jenny Spencer won both her games and Tom Peters a single. Team Coach Dave Gough said had we been able to use Emily Birt we would have achieved a draw. Emily is now the highest Herefordshire ranked player in the ETTA ladies and Junior Girls list.

Jenny scored 21-18,21-11 and 21-18,23-21. Tom played a tough match to score 13-21,23-21,19-21 and 21-19,17-21,22-20. Sam Lloyd scored 14-21,15-21 and 4-21,11-21. Joe Davies scored 11-21,11-21 and 14-21,18-21.

In the Veterans Div 3D Hereford First played away against Wiltshire third resulting in a 7-2 win! Harry Jutle started the first game trailing by a couple of points until the end to win it 21-19, and then really flowed in the next game to win 21-9. Richard Owens first game was similar to Harry's and resulted in winning 21-19. In the second Richard built up quite a lead, before his opposition was able to fight back, but towards the end Richard was able to lift his game again to win 21-16. Gordon Stables went on next to lose the first 15-21, and trailed 7-17 in the second, and made an incredible recovery to win 21-19. The third game sea-sawed with Gordon finally taking it 23-21. Linda Ashman and Richard continued the team success by winning the mixed doubles at 23-21,21-18. Harry and Gordon followed their example by winning the men's doubles 21-16,21-13. At 5-0 up we had won the match already, and this lifted Linda in her singles to score her first win 21-17,21-18. We then had our first loss with Richard scoring 17-21,16-21, followed by Harry 21-7,15-21,12-21. Gordon finished the day winning 21-14,21-12. This win should ensure we finish in 6th position, which is the highest we have ever achieved (had we been able to turn the three 4-5 losses into wins we would have been first!).

Also in this division Hereford Third played home to Somerset 2 resulting in a 0-9 loss.

Mike Wheatley forced one to a decider, Mike Belfield pushed one to juice and Pauline Hart lost her singles narrowly. Mike Morgan scored 13-21,13-21 and 14-21,19-21. Wheatley scored 13-21,21-18,8-21 and 16-21,15-21. Belfield scored 20-22,18-21 and 16-21,17-21. Pauline scored 19-21,17-21. Pauline and Wheatley lost mixed doubles 16-21,16-21. Belfield and Morgan lost men's doubles 13-21,16-21.

In the Veterans Div 3C Hereford Second played home to Hertfordshire sixth resulting in 4-5 loss. This has been their best result so far. Neville Meredith and Norman merchant won one each. Neville partnered Carol Milnes to win the mixed doubles, and Norman partnered John Hunt to win the men's. Norman scored 17-21,15-21 and 21-19,21-16.. Neville scored 21-14,14-21,21-10 and 14-21,14-21. John scored 16-21,15-21 and 17-21,18-21. Carol scored 17-21,19-21. Mixed doubles won at 21-13,21-16, and men's at 21-17,10-21,21-9.

In the Senior Div 2B Hereford played a double match away against Cornwall1&2 resulting a 5-5 draw, and a 7-3 win! The match against the 1^st team sea-sawed all the way for the draw.

Against the 1^st team Mark Owen and Michael Owens won 2 each, although Michael was pushed to a decider in one. Andy Castle won one at juice in the decider. Sally Davies pushed one to a 3^rd set decider only to lose it. Owen scored 21-13,21-17 and 21-12,21-11. Owens scored 15-21,21-14,21-15 and 21-13,21-13. Castle scored 21-10,16-21,23-21. Davies scored 10-21,21-17,15-21 and 12-21,10-21. Emily Birt scored 11-21,9-21 and 5-21,6-21.

Against the 2^nd team Owen, Owens and Birt won 2 each, and Castle had a single win for the 7-3 result. Owen and Birt were pushed to a decider in one of their matches. Davies was also pushed to a decider in one but lost. Owen scored 21-17,18-21,21-7 and 21-10,21-13. Owens scored 21-18,21-17 and 21-10,21-15. Birt scored 21-11,21-14 and 21-18,13-21,21-19. In the Veterans Div 3D Hereford First played away against Somerset 2nd resulting in 5-4 WIN! This was an enthralling match that sea-sawed to the last game. Each member of our team contributed towards victory finally achieved. This is the first 5-4 result that has finished in our favour after3 losses. Harry Jutle won the first easily 21-7,21-11, followed by Richard Owens losing narrowly 16-21,21-9,17-21 and Gordon stables 21-14,20-22,18-21, although Gordon appeared to be in control of each game. Richard and Linda Ashman in the mixed doubles brought the match to 2-2 each winning 19-21, 21-18, 21-15. Harry and Gordon followed their example to win the men's doubles 22-20,16-21,21-13 to lead the match 3-2. Next Linda lost her singles 16-21,18-21, followed by Richard to win his 21-18,14-21,21-18, to again lead 4-3. Harry went on next which he should have won in straight sets but failed to return 3 services at 19-18 up in the second to secure the match and went on to lose 21-19,19-21,17-21. Gordon went on for the last game with the match poised at 4-4 and kept his nerve to win the second, which went to juice winning 21-17,23-21.

Also in this division Hereford Third played away against Wiltshire resulting in 0-9 loss. The opposition proved to be far too strong against our team of Mike Morgan, Mike Belfield, James Palmer and Margaret Shock. The only time the opposition felt threatened happened in mixed doubles partnership of Mike Belfield and Margaret scoring 20-22,17-21.

In the Veterans Div 3C Hereford Second played away to Oxford 2nd resulting in 2-7 loss. The wins came from Norman Merchant 22-20,17-21,21-17, and Neville Meredith 21-9,19-21,22-20. On rest of the singles the scores were Norman 10-21,15-21, Neville 14-21,15-21, John Hunt 21-19,12-21,15-21, and 9-21,6-21, and Carol Milnes 17-21,14-21. In the mixed doubles Neville and Carol scored 21-16,13-21,11-21. In the men's doubles Norman and John scored 7-21,14-21.

Mark Owen and Michael Owens, won both games each, with Christina Matro-Tomas and Sally Davies winning one each. Mark won 21-9,21-9, and 21-5,22-20. Michael won 21-13, 21-12, and 21-15, 21-11. Christina won 17-21, 21-15, 21-9, and lost 14-21, 21-13, 8-21. Sally won 21-11, 21-9, and lost 19-21, 9-21. Andy castle lost 21-18, 9-21, 16-21 and 14-21, 16-21.

In the Junior Div 3C Hereford played away against Cornwall resulting in 1-9 loss. We were unable to field our best side with Tom Peters and Jenny Spencer not available for this fixture. There was a great atmosphere and tension during the ninth game when Emily Birt came from behind, in the deciding game to win at 21-17, 12-21, 22-20, and lost 16-21, 15-21. Sam Lloyd scored 13-21, 11-21, and 16-21, 9-21. Joe Davies scored 12-21, 9-21, and 15-21, 21-17, 13-21. Alistair Dawson scored 14-21, 6-21, and 13-21, 7-21.

In the Veterans Div 3D Hereford First played home to Wiltshire resulting in 1-8 loss. Wiltshire proved to be too strong. The only win came from the mixed doubles partnership of Richard Smith and Linda Ashman at 16-21, 21-16, 21-19. The men's doubles also went to a decider with Harry Jutle and Gordon Stables losing 21-16, 17-21, 13-21. Harry scored 17-21, 16-21, and 21-23, 15-21. Gordon scored 19-21, 13-21, and 12-21, 7-21. Richard scored 20-22, 13-21, and 19-21, 14-21. Linda scored 17-21, 14-21.

Hereford First also played against Hereford Third achieving their first win at 8-1. Harry beat Ray Cooke 21-15, 21-19, and beat James Palmer 21-6, 21-7. Gordon beat Ray 21-12, 21-13, and Bill Nelson 21-10, 21-11. Richard beat Bill 21-16, 21-12, and James 21-0, 21-14. In the mixed doubles Richard and Linda beat James and Pauline Hart 21-17, 21-12. In the men's doubles Harry and Gordon beat Ray and Bill 21-17, 21-12. The Ladies singles was hard fought with Linda losing in the deciding game 15-21, 21-17, 18-21.

Hereford beat Dv 3 at 8-2! Michael Owens, Andy castle and Christina Matro- Tomas won both games each, with mark Stubbs and Anke Althammer winning one each. Michael scored 21-14, 21-10, and 21-17, 21-19. Andy scored 21-10, 21-13, and 21-18, 21-18. Christina scored 21-16, 21-15. Mark scored 21-12, 21-13, and 13-21, 21-19, 18-21. Anke scored 21-6, 13-21, 21-16, and 14-21, 19-21.

Hereford lost to the top team Dv 2 4-6, with double wins for Michael and Andy. Michael scored 21-7, 20-22, 21-16, and 21-13, 21-18. Andy scored 21-5, 21-15, and 21-16, 21-18. In the Junior Div 3C Hereford played home to Gwent resulting in a 6-4 win! Jenny Spencer and Emily Birt won both their matches, with Tom Peters and Sam Lloyd winning one each. Jenny scored 21-10, 21-10, and 21-11, 21-11. Emily scored 21-15, 21-10, and 21-17, 21-12. Tom scored 16-21, 21-15, 21-11, and 19-21, 15-21. Sam 23-21, 23-21, and 5-21, 14-21. Joe Davies 21-15, 14-21, 12-21, and 4-21, 15-21.

In the Veterans Div 3D Hereford First played away to Gloucester 2 resulting in another 4-5 loss. This was very disappointing as we started off 3-0 up. Richard Smith won both games 22-20, 21-10, and 21-17, 21-18. Harry won the first 21-19, 21-10, and should have beaten the second opponent, but was unlucky to have a net and an edge against him at 20-18 up in the second, scoring 22-20, 20-22, 16-21. Gordon also won one 18-21, 21-17, 21-12, and lost 17-21, 11-21. Linda Ashman scored 18-21, 16-21. Richard and Linda lost mixed doubles 16-21, 20-22. Harry and Gordon lost men's doubles 19-21, 21-16, 16-21.

Hereford Third also in this Div played away to Devon 3 resulting in 0-9 loss. Mike Belfield scored 18-21, 12-21, and 10-21, 14-21. Ray Cooke scored, 11-21, 12-21, and 10-21, 16-21. James Palmer scored 12-21, 10-21, and 12-21, 12-21. Margaret Shock scored 4-21, 11-21. In the mixed doubles Margaret and Mike scored 10-21, 9-21, and in men's doubles Ray and James scored 13-21, 12-21.

The Seniors team played away to Avon that resulted in a 4-6 loss. Michael Owens and Christina Matro- Tomas won both their games. Andy Castle pushed one to 3 sets, otherwise lost in straight sets, as did Mark Stubbs. The team felt they would have achieved a 6-4 win if they had been able to field a second lady.

The Veterans first played home to Devon 3 resulting in a 4-5 loss. Harry Jutle played well to win both his games in straight sets, Gordon Stables and Richard Smith won one each. Welcome to Linda Ashman to the team, who played in her first County match.

The Veterans second team played home to Surrey 3, resulting in a 1-8 loss. The single win came from Carol Milnes in 3 sets. Neville Meredith pushed one to 3 sets, the rest were straight sets for Richards Owens and Norman Merchant.

The Veterans third team played a double home fixture against Berkshire 3 and 4, which resulted in 0-9 loss to both teams. The games that went to 3 sets were a doubles partnership of Mike Wheatley and James Palmer, and a singles for John Hunt. Other team members were Trevor Seymour, Ray Cooke, Pauline Hart, Mike Belfield, and Margaret Shock.

First time the Senior team entered and scored a 7-3 Home win against Somerset, with Mark Owen and Michael Owens winning both their games, Andy Castle, Sharon Powell and Emma Allen winning one each.

Juniors Away to Powis had a 3-7 loss, with 2 wins for Tom Peters, and one for Emily Birt. Sam Lloyd pushed one to 3 sets, and Joe Davis was unlucky to lose 2 games at juice. Team Captain Dave Gough felt we would have won with Jenny Spencer, but unfortunately she was unavailable.

Double match for Veterans 1st Away to Berkshire 3 & 4. Loss 2-7 to Bk3, one win each for Harry Jutle and Gordon Stables. Loss 4-5 to Bk4, 2 wins for Gordon, 1 for Harry, and a men's doubles for Harry and Richard Smith. This match should have been a win in the mixed doubles with Gordon and Carol Milnes having taken the first, 20-17 up in the second, and Gordon missed 3 opportunities to finish the game.

Double match also for Veterans 2nd Away to Sussex 3 & 4. Loss 1-8 to Sx3, with a win for Norman Merchant, and 0-9 loss to Sx4. Neville Meredith, John Hunt and Pauline Hart were the other team members.

Veterans 3rd Away to Wiltshire lost 0-9. Team members Mike Wheatley, Mike Belfield, James Palmer and Margaret Shock.

JUNIORS AWAY TO DEVON 2 played on Sunday 29 march 1998

This last postponed County Table Tennis match from 21 February was played on Sunday 29 March 1998 at Plymouth. Our number one Boy, Neil Richards, and Girl, the undefeated and the new Women’s Singles winner Christina Matro-Tomas, were not available. The team of Tom Peters, Kevin Mutton, Joe Davies, Jenny Spencer and Emily Birt lost 2-8. Joe won the first 21-19,20-22,22-20, and lost the second 21-17,19-21,18-21. Jenny narrowly lost the first 14-21,21-16,21-23, and won the second 21-17,21-18. Tom lost 19-21,21-18,11-21 and 14-21,12-21. Kevin lost 8-21,19-21 and 21-17,19-21,18-21. Emily lost 8-21,19-21 and 9-21,15-21.

ALL VETERANS HOME MATCHES played on Saturday 21 March 1998 at Queen Elizabeth School, Bromyard.

The 1st team of Harry Jutle, Richard Smith, Richard Owens and Carol Milnes showed a great fighting team spirit, against Berkshire 3, to come back from 0-4 down to win 5-4! All lost their 1 St set of singles matches, but the turnaround started from the men's doubles of Harry and Richard Smith winning 26-24,24-22. Then Harry went on to win 17-21,21-9,21-13, followed by R Smith to win 21-13,22-20. R Owens won 21-15,21-17 to bring the score to 4-4. The decider left was the mixed doubles, which Carol and R Owens won 21-10,16-21,24-22!

The 3rd team of Nim Hodges, Norman merchant, Trevor Seymour and Margaret Shock against the same Berkshire team went 0-9 down. Norman was very unlucky to lose the one at 15-21,21-15,23-25. Nim lost one of his at 24-26,18-21. The mixed doubles team of Norman and Margaret was also lost narrowly at 19-21,19-21.

Veteran 2nd team had 2 matches to play. Against Kent 5 they fielded Richard Owens, John Hunt, James Palmer and Pauline Hart to lose 1-8. Their only win came from the mixed doubles partnership of Richard and Pauline at 21-18,10-21,21-17.

For their 2nd match against Sussex 4 they fielded Mike Morgan, Mike Belfield, Steve Watkins and Pauline Hart. They were defeated 0-9 by a very strong opposition.

VETERAN 1 ST AWAY TO DEVON 4

Veteran 1st team of Harry Jutle, Richard Smith, Gordon Stables and Carol Milnes went down 4-5 to Devon 4, at the coastal town of Ilfracombe, in a closely fought match on Saturday. Hereford were 3-0 up, then 4-3 up, but the winning game alluded them. Gordon was in top form to win both his games 21-12,19-21,23-21(came back from 17-20 down!) and 21-10,21-13. Harry won the first 21-15,21-14 and lost the second 16-21,15-21. Richard won the first 21-12,21-19 and lost the decider 21-16,19-21,12-21, although he should have won in straight games. Carol lost 18-21,19-21, she led the first, but let it slip towards the end, and played catch up in the second. In the men’s doubles Gordon and Richard lost 14-21,19-21. In the mixed doubles Harry and Carol let the first slip, won the second easily, and led 17-13 in the third, but failed to win, losing 16-21,21-14,19-21. The next match is against Berkshire 3 on 21 March 1998 at Bromyard.

VETERAN 2 ND AWAY TO BERKSHIRE 4

Veteran 2nd team of Richard Owens, Neville Meredith, Mike Wheatley and Pauline Hart lost 0-9 to Berkshire 3. The only resistance came from Neville in the last match, when he lost 17-21 in the third game. The next game is a double match against Sussex 4, and Kent 5 on 21 March 1998 at Bromyard.

VETERAN 3RD AWAY TO DEVON 4

Veteran 3rd team of Norman Merchant, Trevor Seymour, Mike Morgan and Margaret Shock also lost 0-9. Two sets went the distance. Norman lost 21-12,14-21,15-21, and 14-21,8-21. Trevor lost 17-21,16-21 and 21-13,15-21,15-21. Mike Morgan lost 13-21,17-21 and 8-21,9-21. Margaret lost 13-21,8-21. Men’s doubles Norman and Mike lost 10-21,10-21. JUNIORS AWAY TO GLAMORGAN 4 - 17 January 98

On Saturday our County Juniors played away against Glamorgan 4. The result was a 2-8 defeat with Jenny Spencer playing well to win both her games 21-17,21-11 and 17-21,21-9,21-19. The undefeated Christina Matro-Tomas was not available, due to sickness. Neil Richards and Tom Peters underperformed according to their team manager Dave Gough. Joe Davis and Hayley Stubbs stepped in at the last moment to complete the team. Joe is one of the upcoming young players and put up a good show. The last match is away against Devon which was planned for 21 February, but has been postponed at Devon’s request. Congratulations to Tom Peters and Jenny Spencer who’s names now appear on the National Ranking list.

VETERAN 1 ST HOME TO GLOUESTER 2

Harry’s wins were against highly ranked players and this will boost his National ranking. Gordon lost his other game 13-21,25-23,10-21. Richard lost 15-21,15-21 and 25-23,13-21,18-21. Carol lost 13-21,18-21. Carol and Gordon lost the mixed doubles 24-22,15-21,9-21. Harry and Richard lost men's doubles 20-22,11-21. The next match is away against Devon 4 on 21 February. VETERAN 1 ST HOME TO VETERAN 3 RD - 30 December 1997

On Tuesday evening of 30 December 1997 the Herefordshire County Table Tennis Veterans 1st and 3rd teams met at Green Farm, Allensmore to commence battle, which had to be played by the end of 1997. The 1st team consisted of Harry Jutle, Richard Smith, Richard Owens and Carol Milnes. The 3rd of Nim Hodges, Norman Merchant, Mike Morgan and Margaret Shock. The 1st team won 9-0, the only threat coming in the 8th game when Harry lost the 1st to Nim 16-21, but then fought back to win the next 2 at 21-16,21-17. Harry won his other match against Norman 21-11,21-14. Richard Smith beat Nim 21-13,21-13, and Mike 21-10,21-19. Richard Owens was on top form to beat Mike 21-14,21-13, and Norman 21-15,21-13. In the Ladies singles Carol beat Margaret 21-12,21-8. In the mixed doubles Richard Owens and Carol beat Nim and Margaret 21-8,21-18. In the men's doubles Harry and Richard Smith beat Norman and Mike 21-13,21-15. JUNIORS HOME TO CORNWALL - 13 December 1997

On Saturday 13 December 1997 our County Juniors played hosts to Cornwall. This resulted in a 3-7 loss, the 2 wins coming from Christina Matro-Tomas and one from Tom Peters. Christina again crushed her opponents to win 21-15,21-13, and 21-8,21-10. Tom lost his first by a narrow margin to a highly ranked player 15-21,20-22, but won the second convincingly 21-11,21-16. Jenny Spencer appeared to be lethargic and did not play to her potential to lose 20-22,17-21, and 18-21,21-16,17-21. Kevin Mutton lost the first easily but made the second stretch to 3 sets. Neil Richards fought the first one well to lose 18-21,18-21, but lost the second easily. The next match is away against Glamorgan on 17 January 1998.

VETERAN 1 ST AWAY TO WILTSHIRE

Veteran 1st team of Harry Jutle, Richard Smith, Gordon Stables and Carol Milnes went down 2-7 to Wiltshire, with Harry winning the first game comfortably 21-15,21-15. The other win was the men's doubles partnership of Richard and Gordon to win 21-15,21-13. The mixed doubles partnership of Harry and Carol went the distance to lose 21-11,13-21,15-21. Carol also went the distance in her singles game to lose 21-15,12-21,13-21. Richard and Gordon were a bit unlucky when they seemed to be in control in their singles, but both had edges and net points against them at the crucial part of the match. The opposition players are highly ranked and Harry will pick up valuable ranking points from his win. The next match is against Gloucester on 17 January 1998 at Bromyard.

VETERAN 2 ND AWAY TO DEVON 2

Veteran 2nd team of Richard Owens, Neville Meredith, John Hunt and Pauline Hart lost 1-8 to Devon 3 at Plymouth. Neville saved a whitewash by winning the last game 19-21,21-19,22-20. The other games to go the distance were the Men's doubles, and one of Richard’s singles. The next match is against Hampshire on 17 January 1998 at Bromyard.

VETERAN 3 RD AWAY TO WILTSHIRE

Veteran 3rd team of Nim Hodges, Norman merchant, Trevor Seymour and Margaret Shock went down 1-8 to Wiltshire, with the only win recorded in the Men's doubles at 19-21,21-15,22-20. Norman was unlucky in one of his singles to lose 18-21,21-18,20-22 against a highly ranked player. In the mixed doubles Margaret and Norman put up a strong challenge but went down 21-16,9-21,14-21. Margaret also put up a gallant effort in her Ladies singles to go down 18-21,13-21. This has been Margaret’s best effort so far. The next match is against Gloucester on 17 January 1998 at Bromyard.

On Saturday 15 November 1997 our County Juniors played hosts to Gloucester 2. This encounter resulted in a thrilling first win at 6-4. Cristina Matro-Tomas was again in top form winning her 2 games easily at 21-10,21-10 and 21-10,21-9. Tom Peters was also on top form winning both games at 21-11,21-11 and 21-17,21-18. Jenny Spencer won her first game easily at 21-7,21-10, but lost the second in 3 sets at 15-21,21-7,11-21. Kevin Mutton put up a splendid effort to win the first in 3 sets at 15-21,21-14,23-21, but was unable to trouble his second opponent losing in straight sets at 14-21,10-21. Neil Richards was unlucky to lose the first at 22-20,14-21,24-26, and lost the second at 18-21,13-21. The next match is against Cornwall on 13 December to be held at Bromyard.

VETERAN 1 ST HOME TO SOMERSET 2

The team was again not at full strength. The result a 2-7 loss, which contradicts the hard fought match with 7 out of the 9 matches stretching to the full 3 sets. Gordon Stables won the first at 20-22, 21-7,21-17 and lost the second at 14-21,21-17,19-21. Harry Jutle won the first at 19-21,21-11,21-7 and lost the second at 21-14,14-21,18-21. Mike Wheatley lost the first at 7-21,17-21, but let the second slip away at 21-11,20-22,9-21. Carol Milnes went down in 3 sets at 21-19,8-21,8-21. A new doubles pairing of Gordon and Mike lost in 3 sets at 13-21,21-19,15-21. Harry and Carol in the mixed doubles lost 18-21,19-21. The next match is away against Wiltshire and we hope to field our full strength for the first time.

VETERAN 2 ND AWAY TO OXFORD 2

The opposition proved to be too strong for our second team of Neville Meredith, John Hunt, Ray Cook and Pauline Hart. The result was a 0-9 loss, with Ray only offering any kind of resistance to one of his opponents losing 17-21,18-21. The next match is away against Devon.

VETERANS 3 RD HOME TO SOMERSET 2

Our third team were out in full strength for this fixture against Somerset 2. The result a 2-7 loss with Trevor Seymour scoring the 2 wins at 21-19,16-21,21-15 and 21-5,21-19. The rest of the games were lost in 2 straight sets by the team members of Nim Hodges, Norman Merchant and Margaret Shock. The next match is away against Wiltshire. JUNIORS HOME TO SOMERSET - 25 October 1997

On Saturday 25 October 1997 our County Juniors played hosts to Somerset. This encounter resulted in a pleasing 5-5 draw. Our girls Jenny Spencer and Cristina Matro-Tomas, who’s in the top ladies 20 in Spain, performed admirably winning both their games. Cristina crushed the opposition to win 21-11, 21-12, and 21-12,21-6, whilst Jenny had to battle with Katy Seward, nationally ranked at 113, to win 11-21,21-19, 23-21. Jenny won her other game comfortably at 21-14,21-12. Out of the boys Tom Peters was the only victor to win 21-18,21-10, and losing the second in 3 sets. Kevin Mutton went down 3 sets in one, and 2 straight in the other. Neil Richards lost both in straight sets, despite a good effort against the opposition number 1. The next match is against Gloucester on 15 November to be held at Bromyard.

VETERAN 1 ST HOME TO WILTSHIRE 3

Richard Smith is still injured, so was unavailable again. The result a 1-8 loss, with Harry Jutle the only victor beating Colin Thompson nationally ranked at 142! 21-17,21-10. Harry’s backhand sidespins were too much for Colin to control. Gordon Stables was lacking top form today and went down in 3 sets to Colin. The only other game to go the distance was men's doubles. Harry and Gordon seemed to have things under control, but let the first and the final sets slip away to lose 20-22, 21-10,18-21. Carol Milnes and Mike Belfield were the other team members. The next match is against Somerset on 15 November to be held at Bromyard.

VETERAN 2 ND AWAY TO HERTFORDSHIRE

The opposition proved to be too strong for our team of Richard Owens, Neville Meredith, John Hunt, and Sandra Gale. The result was a 1-8 loss, with Richard winning one of his games 21-17,21-17. Richard will pick up valuable ranking points for this win. The only other game that went the distance was Neville against the opposition Number 1 losing 10-21,21-14,19-21. The opposition again proved to be too strong for our team of Nimmie Hodges, Norman Merchant, Mike Wheatley and Margaret Shock. On Saturday 20 September 1997 our County Juniors played away at Shropshire. We had high hopes as our Juniors regularly trained through the summer. The result was a disappointing 3-7 loss. Our girls Jenny Spencer and Emily Birt did not provide much opposition losing in straight sets. The boys Neil Richards, Tom Peters and Kevin Mutton played a bit better winning a game each. Both of Kevin’s games went the distance of 3 sets. The next match is against Somerset on 25 October to be held at Bromyard.

VETERAN 1 ST AWAY TO DEVON 2

Leading up to this match I had high hopes with a planned team of Harry Jutle, Richard Smith, Gordon Stables and Carol Milnes. Unfortunately Richard phoned in sick with an injury only a few days before the match. My thanks to Mike Belfield for stepping in at short notice. We lost 3-6 (same result as last season), with Gordon being the man of the match. Against Graham May, ranked at 225, Gordon was 17-20 down in the first and 15-20 in the second, and won both at 22-20! The other win was Gordon and Harry in the doubles 21-11,11-21,21-17. In the mixed doubles Carol and Mike had their chances but lost 10-21,21-19,17-21. The next match is against Wiltshire 3 on 25 October to be held at Bromyard.
