Herefordshire County Championship Report 2002/3

JUNIOR Division 3C: Our Junior Team started the season with a loss, but then went on to win rest of the matches, finishing runner-up again, as achieved last season. Greg Price only had a single loss to finish with an average of 91.7%. Nikki Segust and Jessica Davies both only dropped 2 games each to finish with an average of 83.3%. Joe Davies must be disappointed with his performance this season with a lower average than the previous season. With Alistair Dawson playing for the Seniors, Nick Wilson has picked up experience to play at County level, and even won a few games to achieve an average of 37.5% .

SENIOR Division 2B: The team finished in a creditable 4th place, the highest achieved. Mark Owen only dropped a single game to score an average of 91.7%. Andy castle achieved a personal best of 50.0%. Helen Green and Sue Segust also achieved 50.0%, but unfortunately Sue was not able to play again after the first match, due to a recurring back problem. Alistair Dawson achieved a creditable 40.0% average in his first season for the Seniors. Thanks to Carol Milnes, Margaret Shock and John Hunt in helping out.

VETERAN Division 3C: The team found it tough going in the higher division, having been promoted from 4C to 3C after coming runner-up last season. They have managed to stay up, and look forward to the next season. Thanks go to Mark Owen in helping us on a couple of occasions scoring 100%, although he had to work hard for some of the games. Helen Green only lost one of her singles, although she virtually had it won, leading 8-3 in the 5th against her opposition ranked at 45, but lost 9-11 after the resumption of a time-out called by the opposition. She scored an average of 80.0%. Norman Merchant had his best season with a personal best of 41.7%. Gordon Stables had a reasonable season scoring an average of 20.0%. Harry Jutle had his worst season having previously had a personal best last season. Although he played well, the opposition always seem to have had something extra when needed, be it luck or skill! Now this season is over the team's looking forward to improve as they feel they have adjusted to this higher division. The main highlight for the team was to turn the 1-8 defeat last season by Gloucester to a 5-4 win this season.

Veteran Division 4D: The team scored another victory this season, but still finished 7th after a total points recount, and are providing real opposition. Carol Milnes and Sharon Powell played well winning both their singles. After a bad start, Steve Farr had better results in the new year to finish at 30.0%. Neville Meredith and John Hunt had 2 wins each to average at 16.7%.

VETERAN Division 4C: Lin Ashman had a good singles win to achieve an average of 25.0%. Mike Wheatley had 2 wins, with another for the 2nd team to achieve an average of 21.4%. Mike Morgan left it till the last game to produce his single win. Thanks to Margaret Shock, Bob Marshall, Tony Williams and Linda Batson and James Palmer in helping out.
