the greenhouse from overheating. There are several methods for creating shade
in the greenhouse: The simplest
method is to purchase specially formulated shading paint. This is mixed like
whitewash and applied in spring. It is easy to wipe off in
autumn. Shading panels are available for some models of
aluminium greenhouse. These are easy to clip into place. Shading
fabric such as woven plastic netting can also be clipped into place, usually on
the inside of the building. As an alternative shading device,
plant and train a grapevine to provide living shade all summer, and a delicious
autumn harvest.
If possible, plant your grapevine in bare soil outside the
greenhouse, leading its main stem through the side of the greenhouse. This will
enable a wider, cooler root-run and will reduce the risk of mildew on the vine
leaves.
