Greenhouse &
propagation

back to Greenhouse Young plants that outgrow their space in a
seed tray may be planted out in the round, or must be transferred to a larger
pot - a process known as 'potting on.' The procedure is simple, but remember to
handle all young plants gently.
Step: 1 Select
the pot and half fill it with compost.
Step: 2 Tease
out a young plant, hold it in position at the centre of the pot while
introducing more compost all around the roots. Firm very gently, ensuring that
the plant is at exactly the same depth in its new compost as it was
before.
Step: 3 Water thoroughly, until water flows
through the drainage holes in the bottom of the pot.
Space is likely to be at a premium. A tiny pot of 30 seedlings,
when pricked out and potted up, will need more than a square metre, so plan
ahead and try not to grow more of each variety than you need.
