I am delighted to find someone in Scotland that I can communicate with that has the
same desire to research the Whan(n)s in both Scotland and America. I am sure that some day
we might find the connection between the families and a lot of history. Since the name is
not a common one, it is to our advantage. The name started out as MacWhan and was dropped
along the way. In American I found the same person called Whan and also called Whann.
William is a very common first name for Whan(n)s so that has been a problem. Regards,

Searching for information on my great grandfather Charles Henry Potts born Dec. 21, 1876, married Callie M. Bulla Dec. 17, 1894 in Sharp Co., Ark. Died Aug. 1964 in Marlow, OK. Had three children Henry Emmett, Floyd and Lois. Moved to Emmett, Ark where they owned a restaurant then to Bray, Stephens Co., OK.
Do you have any info on this family?
Any leads would be appreciated as I have hit a brick wall!!!

My ancestors came from Co. Antrium in N. Ireland. Moved to PA about 1832 then to IL.Samuel,George,William are pedominant names throughout my tree.I have two or three others that I've been woking with on Whan Genealogy.If your ancestors made it over to America perhaps I've got pertinant info.
