Star birth clouds in M16 (Eagle Nebula)The stars are embedded inside finger-like protrusions extending from the top of the nebula. Each fingertip is larger than out own solar system. The pillar is slowly eroding away by the ultraviolet light from nearby hot stars.
Photograph taken on 1 April 1995 with the Hubble Space Telescope Wide Field and Planetary Camera 2.
The picture on the left is my favourite object - the moon. You can see where the first astronauts in Apollo 11 landed in the Sea of Tranquility.
See also the NASA Planetary Photojournal which has amazing images of all the planets.
