Keith's Sports was started in the early seventies by Keith Muir. The first shop was a cheaply rented shop, that became his step into retail. His vision was for a much larger outlet and his dream never left him, while he built up a substantial amount of stock, it soon became apparent that he had outgrown the small premises. Milton Street became available for rent in the mid 80's and it was only 100yards away. The property was then purchased 3 years later and with his wife Heather the purchase was made. It has continued to expand over the last 18 years and now trades from 3 floors, selling fishing Tackle, Shotguns, Rifles, Shooting Equipment and Clothing.
Keith was born and bred in the North East of England. After a
number of manual jobs, Keith opened his own business, selling Cycle parts,
Skateboards and general sports items. He was a District Councillor for 8 years
and still is Chairman for Saltburns Residents Association, making sure he stays
active within the community he lives. His love for 60's Soul Music has
encouraged him to return
to his passion of Drumming. He now plays regularly with the band SOUL SURVIVORS
Heather is Keith's wife and also partners in
Keith's Sports. Her main interests are Walking, Swimming and Keep Fit. Having 2
Spaniels has allowed her to keep the walking to a maximum when possible.
Heather left school and has always worked within the retail trade, and also
helps out within the community that she lives.
Daniels passion is still Fishing. It
seems like he is just one of those people who can't get
enough. He joined the Company on 2 weeks works experience from school and later
as a
Saturday lad. He then came to us straight from school and the rest is history.
His love of Fishing and football, and can normally be found somewhere near the
radio on a Saturday when the Boro are playing.
Jonathon joined the Company full time in August 2003, after being with us from school 3 days a week for the past 18months. His interests are Coarse fishing and working his dog, a lurcher called Pepsi
Buster joined the family at the age of 9
weeks. He is now 13years of age, and although he has spent his life beating
with his friend Richard his working days out shooting are over. He will just
have to satisfy himself with running Keith's Sports. He
has had his son Mac living here for the past 3 years and between them the shop
has grown.Buster
sadly died in April 2005 after a long and contented life.
Mac is Busters son and
came back to us in 2000. He is now 10years of age and although has had a career
in shooting his wellies are now hung up.
