The Keltek Trust: Essex Projects

St Peter ad Vincula, Coggeshall

The augmentation scheme at Coggeshall is unusual as most schemes involve adding treble bells to the existing ring. This project involves the addition of a treble and a tenor bell and necessitates  the replacement of two of the original ring of eight bells with bells of a different note.
We were asked if we could find alternative homes for

the two surplus bells. We are pleased to report that new homes have been found for both. The old 6th bell, cast by Tho. Gardener in 1757 has become a clock hour bell at St Mary's, Coity, Mid Glamorgan. The surplus 2nd bell has become the new treble at St Mary's,  Donyatt, Somerset as part of their restoration and augmentation scheme. St Peter's have also acquired surplus bells as part of their augmentation project. The new tenor is a fine Simpson tuned Taylor bell from St Barnabas, Penny Lane, Liverpool. The bell is being removed to make way for the installation of a ring of eight bells.

Inworth, Essex, All Saints

The smallest of the three bells acquired from Llandybie quarry, West Glamorgan has been installed at Inworth to augment the light ring of five bells to six. The Trust donated the bell and the project was completed during 2003.

South Ockendon, Essex, Holy Cross

Like many modern church buildings the tower though large in area, is not capable of taking a heavy ring of bells. A ring of eight bells with a tenor weight of just under 4 cwt was installed during November 2011 incorporating five bells acquired by the Trust. The Trust donated the 4th of the ring of eight.

Prittlewell, Essex, Annunciation of Blessed Virgin Mary

The Trust is assisting with the relocation of individual bells from the pre-2010 ring that is being replaced with a newly cast ring. The destinations of the bells are: Treble to Willingale, Essex; 2nd & 7th to Kilburn, St Mary; 3rd, 6th & 9th  to Malta Maritime Museum; 4th  to Temple Guiting, Gloucestershire; 5th  to Millbrook, Bedfordshire.
