Turning to the forthcoming season, it was reported that the cost of our premises for 2009/10 was to be £1,100 for an agreed schedule of 38 Monday nights, from 7.30 p.m. to 11.00 p.m.

It was proposed to maintain the subscriptions for this season at £60, with a reduced subscription of £30 for pensioners and students, and late membership rates after 1st January 2010 of £40 and £20 respectively.  This proposal was accepted nem con.

The question of teams including players who had not paid membership subscriptions was raised. It was suggested that the Herts Chess Association already incorporated rules that required clubs to only nominate players who were bona fide members of their clubs. It was therefore suggested we would not nominate players unless they had expressed clear intent to join the club for the forthcoming season.

There was further discussion regarding our stock of digital clocks, and it was suggested that in view of our healthy bank balance, we might consider purchasing a further three digital clocks making ten in total, and providing for the possibility of digital clocks being used in two separate matches on club nights if required. Ken Maynard agreed to investigate, and see what offers were available on digital clocks at present.

Season 2009/10

Proposal for the club website. (see Appendix A) This was debated at length. The main points debated concerned recommendations that AGM minutes and player’s details should not form part of a publicly accessed website. There was no conclusive agreement on these points, but there was general agreement that a genuine domain name should be sought for the club. It was considered that consultation with Kai Jaeger was appropriate. As Kai would not return to the club until mid-October, it was recommended that the committee should liaise with Kai on his return.

Proposal for a wiki. (see Appendix B) Adam Batson and Mike Price gave an account of the development by Kai Jaeger of a wiki website that would be accessible only by club members through invitation. Among the items that is now on the Stevenage Chess Club wiki is the club database, and results of the recent Blitz tournament. In the absence of Kai Jaeger, the problem was that nobody at the AGM apart from Adam and Mike had experience of accessing the wiki. As with the proposal for the club website, it was therefore recommended that the committee should liaise with Kai on his return.

Club database. Adam Batson gave an account of the development of a club database during last season, drawn from the games played and stored on Chess Base by five of the club members. The number of
