APPENDIX A
Proposal I. ===========
Chess clubs are to be found today via the Internet. For that reason a chess club has to have a web site.
That website should look nice and welcoming. The current web site is in this respect improvable.
It should provide information which is of interest to anybody:
* Location of the venue, and maybe a photo. * Opening times * Events opened to the public (like our newly established Blitz tournament) * Contact details (email) of one or two people in a way that cannot be read by machines (to avoid spamming) * Availability of car parks.
It should NOT provide information which is not of interest to the public like * AGM minutes * Player's details of any kind (address, phone number, email addresses)
In this respect the current web site offers too many pieces of information.
There are services available were creating as well as maintaining a web site is very easy, and it's free or almost free.
I would also recommend to buy a genuine domain name for the chess club. That is not possible for free, but it is cheap. The reason why the club should have it's own domain name is simply that it's * easier to remember * easier to print (newspaper etc)
At http://www.123-reg.co.uk/order registering http://stevenage-chess.co.uk costs just 6 pounds for two years.
As long as I am living in UK, I can host the website for free - I own my own Internet Server.
