Adam described how the database was now accessible on the club wiki, and could be used for analysis and preparation for forthcoming matches, by anybody with Fritz or similar Chess Base software. Adam offered to bring his laptop along on Monday 14th September to give a demonstration to interested club members. Membership list. A membership list was circulated, and it was requested that members should check the details to ensure these were correct. Match results. It was requested that all match results should be sent via the on-line reporting system. Dave Belton agreed to submit the results for the 4th team. Dates for the diary. The Capel, Burn and Bunce, to be held at Ware Arts Centre on 3rd and 4th October was recommended to the members.
ECF and County business
Chris Majer reported on the return of the TV game BingoLotto during September. Gamecards were available in Tesco stores from 7th September. The ECF were to be one of the beneficiaries of the funds raised by this game. Chris also reported on the on-going battle for chess to be accorded charitable status, and on the continuing developments with the ECF project Chess for Schools in association with Holloid Plastics.
It was reported that Hertfordshire would be entering teams in the Southern Counties Open, Under 160, Under 140 and Under 120 competitions. Mike Price stated that he had taken on the task of captain of the Under 160 team for this season, and Phil Maguire reported that he would be taking responsibility for the Open team.
Any other business
Chris Majer disclosed that in a review of old trophies he had come across the Field Trophy. This was a trophy that had been contested many years ago by North Herts clubs of the time. The only surviving clubs were Stevenage and Letchworth. It was suggested that we might consider reviving this trophy with a match of around eight boards against Letchworth, perhaps as a pre-season fixture in September, or alternatively in June after league matches had been concluded. Mike Price agreed to contact Letchworth to see if they would be interested in this proposal.
