Pneumatic air operation
Our TT Fossil Preparation Pen is one of our most versatile pens. Before we adapt them to a new life of fossil preparation, their original designed for use is within industrial manufacturing environments, for uses such as the removal of welding slag, deflashing castings, and etching on metals. Fossil preparation however puts unique demands on tools. Our TT Fossil preparation pens have evolved and are specifically adapted from these industrial pens to meet these demands. Some of our modifications include
The TT Fossil Preparation Pen is deceptively powerful for its size, while being genuinely capable of truly fine finishing work, with a surprisingly meagre air consumption. It has a wide power range and is easily and instantly varied for close or fast work. Very popular with users who prepare larger ammonites or multiple ammonite / bone blocks, from the hard nodules of the lias and other "difficult" rocks. |
![]() Stenopterygius sp. Upper Lias Lower Jurassic Whitby Yorkshire Shown with areas in various stages of preparation from roughed out to near finished. This very large nodule contained in 3D, a skull, post cranial verts and a paddle of this large Ichthyosaur and was preserved in the typically very hard, heavily pyritic limestone. It was prepared exclusively with our TT pen from start to finish. The TT pen with its combination of power and finesse, meant that it was the ideal choice for fast, hard matrix removal and finishing. Note the specimens equally massive rostrum laying in the background. |
