St Mary's Lighthouse
International Lighthouses and Lightships Weekend
15th August 2009
This was our 3rd year at the Lighthouse and we thank Adam Kelsey (Manager), Steve (Warden), and the rest of the staff for their kindness and help during our time operating the station.
On Friday afternoon Kenneth M1DZT took some of the equipment down to the lighthouse ready to give us a good start on Saturday
Ian G7MFN, Kenneth M1DZT, and Paul 2E0LFM arrived on the island at 0800hrs, which just give us the time to unload our cars and park them on the mainland before the tide came in at 0900hrs (until noon).
Paul and Ian had the job of climbing the stairs inside the Lighthouse, and then going out on to the veranda to set up the Fullsize G5RV (HF) (the ends of which where run out to the walls each side of the lighthouse), and Dribander for VHF, poor old Kenneth had the easy job of standing in the wind making sure no one walked by as the gear was being pulled up the outside (and untying knots in the rope !!!! ), the whole thing was set up by 1000hrs ready for us to start operating, We were joined by Geoff G7GJU with slightly damp feet just before the tide went out at 1200hrs. (the station was then operated until about 1630hrs). Many thanks also to John 2E0SCO George G2ARY Lisa M0BQD and Tara M3TNI for helping with the greeting message contacts.
73's from the Lighthouse until next year - Kenneth M1DZT
