Planner's Comments

Well, have I had a busy couple of
months!
Started on a big high with the
arrival of our new baby son Ben on the 27th November, I did get to the AGM
but only briefly!
After Christmas I started
planning for Lanhydrock, my first attempt.
Thanks to Steve for
his patience as controller for steering me in the right direction in my
role as planner.
Also to Barry for giving up
his time to show me how to use Ocad, which does get easier! Apologies for any mistakes
which hopefully will improve with experience!
I Hope everyone enjoyed the
courses. What a good turnout, we were certainly lucky with the weather. Its rewarding when ithe event is so well supported.
Thanks to Bernard,Arthur,Graham and Steve for control collection at
the end and to Annabel for her duties as organiser.

Controller's Comments – Steve Beech
A
new baby, Christmas and then plan your first event. A sure recipe for sleepless
nights but Ivor managed without losing his smile and produced a successful set
of courses. Yes, there were a few details that could have been picked up on,
but bearing in mind that the whole planning and controlling effort was packed
into a period of about 10 days, I was very pleased with the outcome. There is
always a danger of the controller 'taking over' the courses with someone new to
planning, but I try to leave them as originally intended and Ivor will have
learnt a lot about the planning process ready for his next event.
Lanhydrock is not the easiest of places to plan.
There are limited options for the easy courses and getting the right distance
for the longer courses is difficult without adding extra climb. Then at this
time of year one is always concerned about the weather and the effect it may
have on conditions but we were fortunate that the wind and rain passed through
in the night. And as a bonus the forecast heavy showers did not materialise.
The results show that Ivor's courses were about the
right length with most competitors finishing in reasonable times.
There was the slight embarrassment of running short of maps and water.
Thankfully one group did forewarn us that they were coming (much appreciated)
so we had chance to increase the print run on some courses, and we would love
to see the same sort of numbers at events through the rest of the year. All in
all a successful day and I hope to see you all at Craddock Moor on 8th Feb.
