Planner's Comments
– Roger Hargreaves
Following a resurvey by club members in the autumn Elsie and
I "normalised" the survey and prepared the map update. It was
because of our familiarity with the forest that we volunteered to plan and organise
respectively. On the weekend of the event we found a track that had
escaped the survey!
We clearly knew where the
best bits were and I tried to get all of you into most of them. I was
also conscious that I had to provide enough route choice for the longer
courses. Idless does have more than its fair
share of brambles however and is surprisingly hilly. I'll look with
interest at Routegadget to see where you all
went. It was very encouraging to see families trying the sport
after visiting Eden over the February half term - I hope you found the
experience in forest interesting as well.
It was also good to see other newcomers giving the sport a try.
I hope we see you at the
next event at Penhale on Saturday 18th April!
Controller's Comments – Barry Olds
This was our first visit to Idless for quite some time and Roger & Elsie did a lot
of ‘preparation’ work prior to the event in ensuring that the map was up to
date. This gave Roger the opportunity to plan some challenging courses taking you
to all the good bits!
With the planner being a ‘grade
1’ controller my role was an easy one! Roger ensured that I received the
courses in plenty of time and that all control sites were accurately ‘tagged’
in the forest. Having agreed the sites, all I had to do was to enjoy my early
morning run on Sunday to check that all the controls were in place.
Organiser's Comments – Elsie Hargreaves
The weather was very kind to us for the event at Idless - always a plus for the organiser. And much more pleasurable for the members who have volunteered
their time to make the event run smoothly. I thank you all.
Each organiser has to make
sure there are enough volunteers to man their event. If you feel would be
able to spare an hour or so at an event to help on the start or finish or to
help in registration or the computer tent please let us know. It's a very
good way to get to know other members and to understand how events are put
together.
