As this event was
arranged at rather short notice there wasn't much time for planning but from
people's comments and looking at the results I think the courses were
interesting enough even though the majority of the controls were located in the
same place as the previous Tehidy event in
December. It was good to see so many people turning up despite the wind
and heavy rain that we had in the morning. Thanks very much to Phil for
printing the maps, to Jock who ended up running around checking the controls
during the heaviest rain of the day, Roger for organising everything and
everyone so well and to Phil, Adele, Bernard, Jock and Ivor for helping to
bring in the controls at the end of the day.

The club have had a little difficulty getting a venue for the May
event. With two weeks to go we had just found out that we could use Tehidy and Gavin had volunteered to plan. We needed
and Organiser and Controller. Chairman Jock stepped up to the plate to
act as Controller and Elsie and I agreed to organise.
Then Elsie broke her arm and we thought we
could still cope "3" handed. Then on the Friday before the
event Elsie had an operation on her arm and came out of hospital at noon on the
Saturday. She wasn't going to make the event. Happily having
trawled virtually the whole membership list we were able to have enough
volunteers to fill all the gaps and still let everyone have a run at the time
they wanted. Special thanks are due to Dick Smith, Chris Moncaster,
Jeannie and Richard Bown who all turned up early to help with the tents - but
in horizontal rain and strong winds. By 1030 tents were up and the rain
had stopped. The only other slight problem was that the generator refused
to start. Fortunately I carry an inverter in the car and so the
computer/printer ran on that for a couple of hours until
Gavin turned up with a replacement generator.
While the turn out
was quite low we had a number of new faces - most welcome too.
So thanks again to Gavin for Planning and Jock
for Controlling - and to all the volunteers who did duty on "jobs"
and to those stalwarts who then collected controls!!
