This bottle has an unusual feature of two contrasting main colours. Other similar items are known (such as illustrated in Scottish Paperweights) but with either the green or the pink colour, not both. It is clear from the photo that the body does not have the smooth lines ("conical" or "Monart ZG") of Ysart items. It is also easy to see the stepped form of the base - a feature not known (so far!) in Ysart work. The pink colouring is quite weak but on close inspection, the neck section does show that it is striped - albeit much more vertically than in standard Vasart items. Looking at the photo, the underside of the well portion shows as a ragged edge, but in fact it is relatively smooth. The problem is that the whole well section is poorly formed, with one side protruding well off-centre. I have seen another bottle of this type with exactly the same poor formation. Another point to note is that the height of the neck is much smaller than in Vasart pieces. Also, the rim rises in a smooth slope whereas Vasart items have a more flattened look. The neck of this example is only 0.9 cm, compared to almost 2 cm for a regular Vasart neck. The stopper is actually very wobbly within the neck and in one position it leans at an angle of some 10 degrees!. (I found the only stable upright position for the photo - just to make it look good.) This bottle, and the plain blue one, both have a similar feature that I do not believe occurs in Vasart (or Monart) items. The canes in the stopper are set flat such that in profile they are almost invisible, with just a clear upper half of the stopper being seen. In Vasart stoppers, the canes tend to fill the whole dome. Overall height, including stopper: 11.1 cm (4 3/8 inch) |
