Information may, at some future
time, come to light on the elusive date of changeover to a lead-based glass in
the Vasart Ltd. years. I had hoped this change was coincident with the
introduction of the shaped Vasart labels in 1956 - since that would mean UV
testing could clearly separate early and later Vasart pieces. Unfortunately,
evidence is suggesting continued use of the soda mix after 1956. For now, this
means the only reliable way to determine an Ysart Brothers piece (apart from
design and cane clues) would be through the existence of a first period Vasart
label or an etched marking of "Vasart", "Ysart Brothers" or similar.
Until there is a more accurate way
to separate early and later Vasart-style items, those that fluoresce under UV
as a soda mix, have been placed in my "Ysart Brothers" group. This includes
pieces that may actually be 1930s (or even earlier?) work by
Salvador. |
