An excellent weight but with an apparent use of two different canes in the inner row! In fact, those yellow-white canes are all the same but, during the making, the white star has melted out in some examples, turning them into what look like white rods with a yellow flashed coating. The central red and white portion of the those canes are identical and are quite complex, with some similarity to the design of the large central cane. Looking closely at the second concentric row, it can be seen that "slippage" has again occurred in some canes. In this case, the complex orange and white daisy pattern core has sometimes been displaced entirely leaving just the white section. The impression is as if the orange daisy pattern was set only as a thin cap at the end of the cane and this has been sliced off and pushed to one side. Well, so much for really detailed study! Standing back, the overall design, use of colour and setting of the canes and twists is really very good. The twists are composed of a thread of orange with two white threads to either side. These give a delicate feel, contrasting with the black ground and the white-blue canes. The row of green and white daisy canes also helps to create a "fancy" outer portion to the weight. |
