Glass Colour and Dome Shapes

The images below were produced from a series of digital photos taken in one session and under the same conditions, distance and technical settings. Each photo was subsequently adjusted by the same amounts for sharpness, brightness and contrast. An equal area was cropped from each photo then resized as shown.

The actual colours displayed on screen may not be accurate according to normal visual guidelines - this will, in part, be due to the viewer's particular system and monitor settings. However, by using common factors for photography, enhancement and cropping, a reasonable comparison of shades of colour can be made. Generalised colour descriptions have been provided beneath each set of images but these are only guidelines, not specific or accurate hues.

Some paperweights had to be inverted, or set at an angle, in order to view the main glass colour without altering the basic photographic conditions. The reason for this is that the interior elements of these items completely fill the normal profile view, usually as a result of the shape of the internal dome of canes.

By preparing the sets of images under controlled conditions, the proper relative sizes and dome shapes are maintained. For the final image, two pairs of weights have been cropped and set together, but their proportions are correct relative to the other items.

The blue and green tints may be due in part to the spread of the main colour of the ground or the canes within the item.
